Position Change

Hello all!!

I am reaching out because I need a change of pace. I gradated college in 2021 with a degree in Accounting, but always had the knack for sales. Most people I know were surprised when I said I was getting a degree in accounting. Since December 2021 I have held two different accounting positions and both I dreaded with the slow pace and repetitiveness . My questions is how can I break into the sales world with my background?

^^ take a look.

People have all kinds of backgrounds when they break into sales. But you can start applying for entry level jobs and get started.

You start applying to sales jobs. Start looking for entry level positions, like as a SDR/BDR and go from there. There are TONS of resources here in the search bar as well as in the academy on what to look for.

Also, fill out the jobs tab and set your profile to "Actively Looking"

I'd look for SDR/BDR in the fintech world, were I you.

And check out the Academy. Be ready to emphasize examples of interpersonal skills. The stereotypical image of an accountant is basically the polar opposite of the stereotypical image of a salesperson.

I think that very likely to be the easiest path to finding a role and finding success within one. You’d have a ton of credibility with prospects too

Look in the academy there is some great resources there.

Also they just started Tech Sales U which might be a good option to learn more

I would 100% start looking for sales roles where the buyer of the product is accounting firms.

Your experience and knowledge will be viewed as a huge asset.

idk what those companies are off hand but thats what Google is for.

Find relevant industry — search for companies — shortlist — read JD — make custom resume and start applying

As you’ll be new to sales, get the basic. Bravado academy as everyone mentioned is a good start point.

Go for it! I've hired folks into sales positions who lacked sales experience because they compensated for their lack of experience by demonstrating the qualities I look for in sales people (great communication skills, asks great questions, high energy, competitive drive, strong work ethic, etc.). A great hiring manager will know that it's less about what you've done and more about what you can do. Help them see how you can be a positive addition to their sales team.

Oh, and because you do lack sales experience, be sure to look for a company that offers quality training and has great managers who coach and develop their sellers.

Recruiting for accounting/finance positions? You already have a lot of the knowledge that many recruiters don't have related to accounting (have your CPA?), so should be an easy transition and that may be an easier leap over to an AE position.

knocking on doors until a company gives you the opportunity, try to undertake or make sales on your own so that your CV does not look empty and inexperienced... literally it is statistics, someone will tell you yes
