Product Fit? Do I look for new jobs if I believe I’d be better in another sales industry.

Long story short - I am 19 months into my job at a brand name medical device company. I hit quota in my first year and then took on a new territory with higher pay. I am 99% TQA 6 months in so very do able to hit quota.

I sell our products in many different specialties across healthcare. I think I'd be more suited to sell into one specific area so I can be more of an expert. Best way to define it is "I know alittle about a lot".

I love sales but think I'd be crushing my numbers and making more money in a more specialty specific role? or is this a classic
grass is greener mindset?

PS. great boss and team for the most part. company has good benefits and good work life balence. don't love the career growth options.

Does the role you have in mind exist at your company? Because that could be an easier shift for you than moving to another company and having to completely start over.
Also, embrace what you're doing now as you hone in on where you best thrive. Being somewhat of a generalist and being successful is possibly a very good thing for building a respectable foundation in your career.

I would say figure out what specialty you like the most and look for roles with that. Personally, I am software side, but I work specifically with Ortho groups and I love it

You say you have a great boss. Just talk to them about what you’d like to do. If it’s possible to do at your current company they can help you make the transition or even pave the way for that type of role to be created.

Sounds like you have a great thing going. Nothing wrong with keeping an eye out on other opportunities but I wouldn't make it your main focus. Maybe reach out to some of the local med sales recruiters and introduce yourself. Let them know your situation. Update your LI job settings as well so recruiters can find you.

Sounds like you’re in a really good spot. Good boss, hitting numbers, all basically happy. Clearly you’re good at what you do. So, why start sniffing around? That’s easy. You’re a sales guy. It’s pretty much expected.

There’s no harm in a casual search. I think most in this forum do it regularly. I do. The only caution I’d throw out there is this: As you hone your craft, you naturally become a solver via your spectrum of products. In a specialty role, you lose that ability.

There’s riches in the niches. But if you can do more deals with more products, you might just find it more personally gratifying.

Foods for thoughts.

You are your best judge, it's always a good idea to talk to your great boss to see if you can get what you want in the same workplace as you're quite absorbed in that environment and having success.

I went from being a specialist for one security tool to more of a generalist for an entire security team. In the specialty role, I was bored of it after a year as well. I think you're right about the "grass is always greener" situation.

If you are crushing your numbers, I would only look for upgrades to higher pay or better territories.

Holy smokes, you're killing all your sales targets like it's nothing it seems.

I would advise don't let hubris take control. Leverage these skills at your current org. Use them to increase your longevity and promotional path at the same company.Sounds like you are a rising star and people see this.

More money can be obtained through harder hustle and proper investments of assets. Don't leave a great job.

I would rather look up for better opportunities internally ,as these massive success factors you're currently enjoying right now could never be the same at your next role!
