Prying Co-Worker

Question:

Curious to hear your thoughts ?

How do you deal with a co-worker always asking "What are you working on ?" "What's in your pipeline ?" Etc ... And then doesn't willingly reciprocate ...

say "lots. what about you?". If they dance around, literally keep repeating yourself until they get the point.

or, which is probably more productive, have an honest conversation and get directly to the point. Ask they why they want to know, and that you feel like they don't reciprocate. Ask them to explain. Don't get emotional in either a positive or negative way, regardless of their answers. You're looking for facts, and to help them understand how their actions effect you. If they truly want a collaboration, then they need to reciprocate. If they don't then that's fine, but stop asking as if they do.

it clearly outlines what is ok and what is not, so there is no misunderstanding. It's not wrong to expect that from people. Personally, I love to know boundaries. Much less complicated.

What am I working on? Stuff.

What's in my pipeline? I've got a few things cooking, what about you?

Yes the first sentence was a joke but they should get the point 😏

Catch and release. Give them a short answer, then ask a relevant question. Works great on cold calls and demos to get prospects talking. Might work well in this situation!

Keep dancing around.

If they are nosey or annoying, just be rude and set some boundaries.
