Reading 10-K filings?

Throughout my sales career, we've been encouraged to read 10-K filings on our public accounts as part of our research. I understand the why behind this, but I've always struggled to put it into practice. these reports are like 200 pages long! Are you sales savages actually reading 10-K's, Ctrl-F some keywords, looking at R&D numbers, what? What's the best use of time for extracting useful info without burning hours of time in the process?

I always look at 10Ks. The most important parts are the exec letters at the front detailing priorities, financial information (growing or shrinking) and risks they call out that you can address.

Exactly this. You don't necessarily have to comb through all of it.

Yes, I use 10-Ks. Look at the beginning sections where the company talks about risks and opportunities to their business and then tailor your messaging with your solution on how you can help in those areas.

Also depending on your product, you can glean a lot of what’s going on from the snapshot income statement and maybe cash flows.

I always read the 10K's, shows you what they are publicly dealing with and also what their IT teams might be going through.

Yeah, being an ex-finance guy I have run through them for time to time. They speak about the target markets and what the company plans to do in the coming year.

Yes, and coded a tracker that I dump all my accts into. Emails me every day with new 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and other stuff like hiring alerts and funding. actually its own standalone product now!
