I wouldn't change the colors on your resume from the traditional black and white. Keep the resume concise and relevant and focus on writing a personalized cover letter that outlines why you're a good fit for the job and why you're interested in working for that company.

Try and find the hiring manager's name so you can address the package to them. Bonus if you can find their direct email and send it there.

Color on a resume is never a good idea. Keep it short, simple and relevant.ย

Why no color? Genuinely curiousย

My mentor spun it like its an email. Color is just fluff and if you are really good, your numbers will speak for you and basically he said just keep it barebones and relevant. Aside from his advice, I have no idea! But I trust him 100%, he's not led me astray yet.ย

Love this approach. And you're so right. Colour doesn't make a good impression. Making it neat, and simple helps

I love the idea. I threw a headshot in my Resume in order to try and stand out. Good luck I hope you get the job!

It's a very common view of hiring managers that headshots are not a good idea, unless you're applying for a job where looks are very important - think acting or modeling.ย

At best, it's not a cultural norm and will make you seem out of touch/vain/odd.

At the worst, employers don't want to know what you look like because it can lead to cases where a prospective candidate claims discrimination due to their race/sex/disability that was shown in the photo. This is the same reason why you shouldn't talk about your religion/any health issues/even if you have a family in interviews.ย

100% to everything @funcouponsย said. Not a fan of receiving headshot resumes and I don't know any other recruiters who are.ย

To add an example to what @funcouponsย said,ย  an old candidate tried to file a lawsuit against my previous company because of this, saying we violated EEO. Coworker had his resume from indeed which is always formatted to indeed's general template, so coworker asked for his personal resume before the qualifying call. Got his resume, headshot on it, hopped on a phone call with the guy, and decided not to move forward. Guy tried to claim it was because of his appearance. Whole ordeal.

Damn, that sucks but yeah this is why recruiters don't want to know what you look like.ย

Plus, people are only human and there's always some degree of bias towards appearance. We all prefer talking to good looking people, and even if you are stereotypically attractive you run the risk of your interviewer not liking your looks because you remind them of an ex or something. Photos on resumes don't do anyone any favours.

I know most won't agree - but we are in SALES. Marketing yourself in a way that catches someone's attention is a part of that. I personally don' think there is anything wrong with using a program like Canva to make yourself stand out.ย

That being said, I think it also depends on the company you are applying to. If I was applying to a top 10 SaaS company, maybe I would lean towards a more "traditional approach." Trying to break into the Startup world? You might be interviewing with the CEO that has never SEEN an AE resume.

The same thing can be said for pictures on your resume - there are times it might hurt you, and situations where it might help you. The world isn't black and white, its grey.ย

Anyone who tells you different can't see the forest for the trees.

If I'm going to use a deck, it's never more than 7 slides and a lot of times just 1 or 2. Sometimes I'll just set the slide as my Zoom virtual background and present that way.

I built my own single page infographic that I use to talk through our corporate overview and value prop. I made it myself because I abhor the "death by powerpoint" thing and the decks marketing makes are trash and insanely long.
