Returns vs Commission

How bad making a return from the customer's side would impact your commission?

I got dinged for returns a few times but fortunately they are small and rare.

I made a big stink about it the first time, basically saying I bring in the sales, not make the products, so I shouldn't get hit for quality problems.

So far it has not been an issue, and I hope it stays that way.

I have been fortunate to not have this happen....so far.

I think it is 100% BS, but its been too small for me to fight hard against.

Other management gets profit sharing, let it come out of that. Our job is to bring in profitable, deliverable business, not to police quality and delivery (even though we usually have to).

We sell SaaS, but if the client cancels the contract (which is rare and against our T&C), we have to pay back the paid commission.

SaaS sales here as well, and there are no returns.

We also do not have termination for convenience, so customers cannot cancel without cause.

Since I get paid after invoicing, the risk of clawbacks, or having to return commission, is very slim. This is not the case with some companies where commission may be paid more quickly, such as 1 mo after signature.

I don't sell things that are returnable. IF I did, I wouldn't get the commission at all because we'd have to wait until the return period passed to recognize the revenue and hence pay my commission.

No returns where I work in SaaS but if a customer doesn't pay then I get clawed back on the commission I made

I work in SaaS so there is a transaction or a churn. Usually as an AE you get rewarded for the transaction and the CS is responsible for the churn...or the churn not having to happen

I am paid on invoices paid, and our service cannot really be "returned." Regardless, I am positive it would be passed along to me if it happened in some wacky world.

The commission rolls back if the client choose the opt-out clause.
