Salary Increase

Hi Savages!!

So Few questions here that are pending in mind about Salary Increase I wanna share hopefully to get some good answers for them!

How often do you ask for a salary increase and does it depend on your annual or semi annual appraisal or something else?

And how flexible your managers or the Finance department is flexible with that request?

And Is it something usually you have to ask for or just applied through an upper decision?

And Finally which other factors determine what type of increase you can get is it the working duration or some other stuff!!!

The only reason I'm asking that because my contract doesn't have a term tackling this part one way or the other!!

So I thought it would be good to hear from you folks how usually things like these are being handled based on your experience!!!

Thanks a lot!!

Nearly all my salary increases have come from switching jobs. Itโ€™s rare they will give a sales person a salary increase. Wanna make more money? Sell more.

This is always what I heard, and I support it IF the company can actually deliver.

I used to get told this and then every deal I worked on and had ready to slam dunk fell through because the product being put out was shit.

100%. Most of the time sales people are able to negotiate a larger base during the hiring process than trying to go back to their current company and ask for an increase.

And once you start selling more you will have one good year and then have quota adjusted...

Ideally when you are over 100% quota is the best time to negotiate. When you are below quota it can be an uphill battle.

Usually beginning of the year and if quota gets raised is the best time to negotiate IMO or you have an offer from another company

Annual performance review or going somewhere else are the two best options for salary and role growth in one's career, especially in sales.

Annual performance review. In the US, it's often bypassed, as "you make your own destiny" in sales, but it purely depends on the company.

I ask for an increase every year when going through my plan. If they try to make changes mid-year, then I ask for more. The saying is โ€œask and you shall receiveโ€ and it is true.

Itโ€™s during the cycle, we cannot ask anytime youwant unless you had such clause.

My company only gives salary increases once a year and it's based on performance over the prior year. There's no negotiating.

I've always asked during a review but almost never gotten anything I wanted.

I've since learned never to accept "intro" salaries with promises of future increases unless it is in writing with a hard start date. The onus has to be on the company to find a way not to increase, rather than justify why you earned an increase.

Still, the largest jumps were always through switching jobs. It is crazy to me that companies will lose star reps instead of just paying more, but they seem to always get stuck in a mindset that you are worth $X and no more.

You can always ask. But the second you get some nonsense about just sell more or blah blah blah, time to start looking.

New job equals higher salary.
Same job equals they will increase sales target for the year and give you nothing in return.

How's everybody's yearly reviews been this year? Inflation is being a bitch.
