Sales <> Stoicism

Are there any Stoicism fans out there? Been reading Ryan Holiday's new book Courage is the Calling and.... damn this shit is good!

This is what heroes do. They make an impact. They make a difference for others. Today and forever.

Whether they're rewarded for this or not is not their concern. Success is not our motivation. "Happy is the man who can make others better, not merely when he is in their company, but even when he is in their thoughts," Seneca writes.

Our duty was never just to be the best ourselves, but to help others and realize their best. Even if, as is sometimes the case, this effort comes at our own expense.

Questions: Why are you in sales? What is your why? Does this resonate?

Got into sales because of money. I think you need to be stoic to be able to handle all the rejection

I got into sales because it gave me the outlet to be creative, assist other and help them in a small way become financially independent with the product or service I provided.

In life the only true thing we have full control of is our thoughts, emotions, and actions, if we learn to accept the things we cannot control then success will not be out of reach. But, if we chase after what we can't control then ruin will not be far behind.

Example: one can not control how many people don't pick up the phone, but you can control your thoughts and how you feel about that experience.

You can either feel frustrated, which will impact your emotions, perhaps leading you to not wanting to make as many calls as you should, or you can except what you can't control, which is the person on the other line and instead of getting frustrated you continue to make phone calls.

There is a formula that in my opinion make this why of thinking easy. E+R=O: Event+Response=Outcome. We can't control the events that surrounds us but we can control our Response to the event, which will trigger either a negative or positive outcome.

There’s a ton of YT stuff on stoicism. I’m not on board with all of it, but for the most part it’s Good stuff.

Ryan Holiday is great, haven't read this one. Daily Stoic has been a big help and is so easy to digest.
Recently picked up a copy of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations.

I also studied A LOT of philosophy in university, so it resonates with me.
Josh Braun goes on a lot about Stoicism, and while he's often quite annoying he is right to be focusing on it.

Very big impact on my success in sales world. And tbh think it’s a difference maker for those who can make it. Sales is so many highs and lows it helps one stay grounded.

Study it enough so it’s natural in your thought processes.
