#1 for me was value of perseverance. You need to push in this role to succeed. Hit the phones, dial away and you will likely do well.

At least for me, and how bonuses were structured, we were much more incentivized to tee up shit leads and set a ton of meetings as opposed to qualifying them. Not sure how your pay structure works but id imagine you are probably in a similar boat.

SDR role is pretty much a qualifier if you have the grit and determination to succeed as an AE.

Was never a BDR, but want to advise: do the best job you can at the job you hold. I watched someone many years ago accept an administrative position as a foot in the door and proceed to make herself and everyone else miserable because she wanted to move into another role she wasnโ€™t yet ready for, and, more importantly, not the role she was hired for. Had she done an awesome job where she was, she would have been first in line for the transfer a few months later, but her impatience didnโ€™t serve her well. So - my advice is to excel at SDR, even if youโ€™re learning and absorbing what youโ€™ll need when you make the jump to AE.

You might think I'm trolling, but get/have a good boss.

You'll make it to the next level (AE, assuming you want that) if your boss is your champion, if they'll advocate for you when you're not in the room. At the SDR level, a good boss (imho) coaches you on what to do, how to do, how to refine your skills, which skills to refine, etc. They go the extra mile to get you to the next level and advocate for you once you're there. And in exchange for all that, you've gotta be willing to listen to the coaching, refine skills you might think you're 100 at already, work on skills you suck at, etc. You've gotta run through a brick wall for them, as the saying goes.

So, in short, get a good boss and if you don't have one, find one. Having a good one as an SDR really sets the bar for you for the early part of your sales career.

I have done b2b sales door to door. Just not used to cold calling as much. Which I will get used to. 4 years of client facing sales experience. The interview I attended the other day had 2 parts 1 mock email ond mock cold call. I nailed the email just need to work on cold calling more. I FIND it easier on the job. So hopefully they will give me some leeway.

Consistency is key. Make the calls every single day. Avoid the high productive days and then low productive days, even it out.

Absolute grit. Take no for an answer, respect it and move on. You are prospecting a company, not a person. One person says a no, take the intel and use it in your pitch when you prospect another person in the same company.

Know your worth and have the data to back it up. You will have ups & downs just remember this is part of the job. If you have the grit like others have mentioned then the opportunities are endless.
