SDR -> AE path

Just joined a company as an Enterprise SDR II (top tier before AE) and was told that I should expect to be moving up to AE or other role of my choosing (such as customer success manager, but AE is the goal) within 6-9 months.

Assuming I'm consistently hitting my numbers, how do I approach holding them accountable for that timeline?

Have heard that around the 4 month mark I should begin talking to my manager confirming the timeline and asking what I need to do to stay on that timeline... any suggestions/tips beyond that?

Much appreciated

I would be careful framing it as "holding them accountable for that timeline" they don't owe you the next job. Be cautious with that.

I think the second part of your post is spot on, make it a part of your career development conversations with your manager.
Keep it top of mind, and don't skip the journey for the destination.

Great point, at end of day its my job to make me valuable enough that they need me as an AE not because they have to.

Appreciate the insight👍

Expressing your interest in taking the next step in your career is normal.  You can ask if you are on track when talking with your manager, and find out what the steps in the process are in order to take that step to AE.

In the meantime, focus on the job you have and do the best you can in that role.    While your career goal may be AE, you are currently a SDR, and excelling in that role is also important.

Good luck to you!

You should ask them about it or have a clear outlook on the process before starting. Ask them now 'what's the process for being promoted to AE? Do I need to hit a percentage of quota for X months? Is there an AE interview? Or do I just need to express interest? '

I'm on the same boat, just joined as an SDR, and want to start hitting my numbers so I can be considered to start the AE path.

I would wait till month 5. Mention to your manager that you had been told after 6 months you can get promoted and reconfirm what need to happen for you to get promoted.  \
