Sdr —-> AE question

hello guys

Been an SDR for 1.5 years at a unicorn saas company. Understandbly when I joined the market meant previous sdrs we're getting promoted super quick when atm it's non existent. there's currently no headcount for AEs till mid q1 next year yet there's 10+ sdrs in line for what looks like maybe 1-3 roles overall that will open up next year. thoughts on sticking it out or looking externally elsewhere? super worried of getting to the 2 year mark and still no progression which looks likely...

Dont feel bad to dust of the resume, but mid q2 next year is only 3 months. Try to gain more clarity if you will be one of the 3 promoted.

No matter what I would at least switch to "actively looking" on the jobs profile here and LinkedIn. Plus get all your metrics, kpis and rank ready and put them on the resume

While tenure is a factor when it comes to promotions, it's important to remain self-aware enough to recognize if all we have going for us in our pursuit of a promotion is tenure. If that's the case, your best bet is to stick it out and improve your skills. That being said, never a bad idea to keep an ear to the ground for better opportunities.

Maybe stick it out through the holidays?

Yeah. Plus with layoffs and stuff, I wouldn't dare make a switch before holidays. We never know.

If you are confident about the new role opening up, why not stick it out for a bit long.

Nothing wrong with starting to look externally. You don't have to tell your company you're looking. If you find something, then you have a decision to make, but if you don't, at least there is a path at your current company, even though things have slowed down.

It never hurts to look, just don't leave J1 until you have J2 secured.

I would look externally for an AE role. Just try to stay away from hopping BDR jobs because you'll just keep starting over

I would stick it out through the end of the year and then start looking.
