Youโ€™re trying to enter the market at a particularly challenging time, when many companies have scaled back and may have hiring freezes in place. The BDRs that have lost their positions at one company are most likely the people youโ€™re competing against. Youโ€™re going to have to be persistent and keep trying. It only takes one yes to get you started. Do your best to sell yourself in your resume and in any interviews you land. What attributes will you bring to a company that would make you the best person for the job? Thatโ€™s what you need to convey.

I see you have real estate experience. Have you tried looking at tech companies in the RE space? Position your experience in the industry as valuable and novel insight into what their customers need.

I feel you. It took me pretty much 6 months to break into tech sales in 22โ€™. And that was before layoffs happened.

Keep applying and hit up hiring managers on LI

The best part about getting a new SDR role is you can literally do SDR-ing to get it.
- make a list of companies that are hiring for SDRs
- filter the list basis companies youโ€™d want to work with
- find ICP in each company / hiring managers, recruiters, head of sales development n sales
- connect on LinkedIn / send your CV / make a loom and send to the HL on LI
- try n get a referral maybe, via friends?

Iโ€™ll repeat - the best part about getting an SDR role is that you can literally do SDR-ing to get the role.

As an SDR Manager once, I preferred to hire a bunch of freshers who had the right skill set, over experienced SDR folk.

Many other companies out there would do it too, if you approach this the right way.

Good luck, and welcome to the war room!

I would also look for non traditional ways to get experience. College kids doing phone calls to alumni for donations is a good one. It sure what you are doing now but i would try to think creatively

You probably do have the experience, but youโ€™re not framing it correctly. You need to dig deeper and learn how to match your background to the listed job requirements and then have your โ€œstoryโ€ down well enough so that you can sell them on yourself.

Itโ€™s not easy. Lots of good people screw up the resume and the interview. Thatโ€™s why you need to practice and work on selling yourself, even if you donโ€™t have the exact experience.

Reach out to hiring managers. Use the resources at your disposal. Learn how to navigate linkedin and other job boards efficiently. Network like there's no tomorrow. Bring value with every conversation.

Itโ€™s a particularly difficult time right now. Emphasize your skills that can lend themselves well to this role.

Right now is hard, and timing/luck is everything. There have been a took of layoffs and people trying to enter the market. You might have to go a different route abs come back later on to get the experience. In the meantime, find something that is tangential that you can leverage in a couple of years.

Yeah, right.
Believe though that particularly the SDR&BDR roles still have some vacancies available that doesn't require an experience.
If not, try to set a target to hit with the recruiter within an agreed duration for a low payout then ask for a higher one once you achieve it during the probation period.
Hopefully that should work for you!

Donโ€™t negotiate against yourself at this stage. Most companies will already have a ramp plan in place for new employees. If you get to an interview stage, remember itโ€™s a two way street and youโ€™re also interviewing them to see if itโ€™s a fit. Taking a bad plan out of desperation isnโ€™t a good idea.

Listen to @Sunbunny31 here. Do not ever take a reduced rate to prove your value. Never take a lower paying role just to break in. Know your worth and stick to it.
