Should I job hop as an SDR for 2x OTE?

I am currently an SDR and am conflicted as to whether I should accept a job offer for 2x my current OTE for a company that is pre-IPO Series D versus stay at my current gig in a listed company.

Check RepVue to see if the current reps at the new org are hitting their OTE. If it’s under 50%, probably not worth the move.

Is it 2x base? Are you currently hitting your OTE?Do you know the product/space you'd be moving into?
Just because the OTE is higher doesn't necessarily mean you'll make more money.

2x base = move 100%

OTE can mean nothing. But you can't argue with a guarantee.

How long have you been at the current org?

Base it’s not much difference around 5k? I’ve been a rep for about 9 months in my current org. The new place is also offering a 50/50 split for the SDR role

The space is in Regtech for the new company.

Hitting OTE consistently at my current place.

So you're gonna start over for a $5k base increase?

I would stick in the current org especially if you're performing. When you hit 1 year mark talk to your manager about promoting you

I would stick around. You've not even been there a year, and you know you can do well. OTE can be pulled out of thin air.

Stay with what you know, develop there.

The only the way math works is if he is on a $5,000 base annually

And if that is the case sir, please kindly leave immediately

Example:Current position is say 80KNew position is say 80K + 5K.Current position is say 80K plus OTE 80K = 160K SECURED.New position is 85K and POTENTIAL doubled OTE of 255K.Because we do not know if potential scenario would come through, with current market scenario and many layoffs and low tenure in the company... I would recommend performing well and staying and growing to AE and then interviewing for higher OTE.

You just did the math I think was missing. Because 2X OTE to me usually means doubling the base + commission, not just adding to the "you'll make bank here selling, pinky swear". As if commissions aren't usually uncapped and have accelerators anyway.

job security -vs- chasing the money

Always a good question.

I prefer security having chased the money and both won and lost. Being out of work 6 months is a great way to blow that 2x offer.

But in the end, only you know what's best for you.

Iv also been in a similar position I presented the offer letter to the company I was working to negotiate my current salary or create clear objective base goals to move to an AE position faster.

It turns out the VP of sales misrepresented when I said "negotiate" and ended up getting laid off and paid severance.... a month later I learned that almost 30% of the BDR team ended up getting laid off ( I didn't ask if they got severance). They saw the opportunity to let me know knowing that layoffs where coming soon.

You win some you lose some but I would recommend maybe asking to talk to one of the reps that currently works there or see if you can "shadow for a day".

Hi, an observation i can share is determine how important is career progression to you? (as in going from SDR to AE role) 2nd question is How fast do you wish for that to happen? reason for these 2 questions (speaking only from personal experience) is that usually when you decide to embark in an opportunity as an SDR with months or years in experience in one org to go to another org more often than not your path to AE gets reset and you would have to go through that career path journey from scratch again with no promise or gurantyee of promotion (unless written in the contract) and no specific timeline either. because as an AE you will make definitely more than an SDR especially on the commission front if you are good but usually also for base. If progression does not matter right now in your career and you love to stay on as an SDR then the choice will be relatively simpler for you. Hope this helps and wish you the best.

Should I take a higher paying SDR role that beats the AE OTE of my current company, or get promoted to AE for the experience
