Should other roles in company have complete deal visibility?

Hi Sales Savages,

I'm just curious how everyone feels about other roles within the company having visibility into specific deals, regards what they cost and what is being charged to the customer.

I'm not in tech sales, but am base + commission and sell a physical product B2C & B2B. After determining costs to the best of my ability, I currently have freedom to set my pricing as I see fit for each deal. Once a deal is won, I write everything up including what I'm charging for everything and send it to the production manager and am basically done. However I'm asked to copy the entire production crew, head of marketing, our shipping person, etc. onto the email so everyone is "in the loop" on what is being produced. Maybe it's just me, but I feel weird about the deal dollars being included and sent to the most junior hourly employees.

I generally support a free and open discussion of wages and pay, but not necessarily a forced posting to the whole company. Am I the jerk?

Should other roles in company have complete deal visibility?

No, it's just something you need to get used to at that company. 🤷‍♀️

Appreciate the feedback! It's certainly not a big deal, just something different than I'm used to.

Can't see how it's wrong. It's not that you're getting the entire deal value. Even the CEO isn't getting it. The money just gets distributed and that's how everyone gets their pay-check (including the hourly employees).

I remember how in my previous companies, the security guards and night watchmen took special care of the Sales team working in the night. One of them once said to me:

"My job and salary depends on the money you bring into the company."

I don't see any issue with people seeing my deals, just they can mind their own business when it comes my payout.

I would hate sharing the amount of money I get compared to the amount of work I heap onto my production and support team by getting things signed lol. I know the logic of if I'm not selling they aren't working but I know for a fact they are putting a lot more hours in than I am. I hope they are getting paid more than I am but I often doubt that.

I feel like it just is what it is.. CRM is usually visible to a ton of people anyways

Too much busy work for me though

Where I work, the CRM is available and details of the sale are there for anyone with a login to see.

We also have a monthly session where key wins and losses are reviewed - and the entire company is invited.

For sales, it's helpful to understand what worked (or didn't); for product, it's helpful to get feedback. For other members of the company, hearing about success is also important, as we're all working toward the same goal. Maybe your company is doing their best to create a sense of community and to highlight sales as the engine driving your overall company success.

Blow it up
My company has this weird thing where they don't want some employees to see pricing, but if they looked hard enough they could find it.

All our dept managers know the value of deals, and since they are all part of a profit-sharing plan I think it is one of the best ways to get them invested in successful delivery.

Profit Sharing plans are great, at least when the company is profitable. :)

I can see an argument for sending out everything that is sold, and even sending out a total dollar value of the sale. helps people see that the company is getting revenue. Not sure how I feel about showing profit and everything to every single employee though

I have no problem with these people seeing what is going on. including everyone on an email is annoying but the idea that even an hourly person can see what is being done does not bother me.

im always a fan of transparency especially when there is nothing to hide haha.
What makes you uncomfortable about it? that ppl could figure out how much you make on a deal?

I think that may be exactly it. It feels like blasting out, "Hey everyone! I just made $x,xxx!" to hourly team members. Sound like I should just get over it. Self-reflection time!

If I was the production crew, I would be deleting the email most likely. I dont this as an issue
