Signs of an acquisition

Currently at my first series E tech job. We just had a second round of layoffs, are pacing well below our goals for this year, and missed last year so badly only one person on ramp hit plan. I am starting to suspect short of a big change we will need to find a buyer. Our investors are expecting a return. What are some signs maybe I've overlooked or should be aware of going forward? Any tips other than stay away from the bottom of the sales leaderboards?

When they ramp up quotas to ridiculously high levels and are firing people right and left, its time to look elsewhere.

Love playing in the numbers. We would need to double our average sale and sell just shy of 150% of the units from last year. I would like to survive until an acquisition though if possible. It’s a great product that I really enjoy selling. Leadership is just over their head it seems.

Not to be curt but who would buy when company is not performing and financing is expensive?

When I was at a company that got aq’d they let go of VP Sales and Product at the highest level. Side note 6 months after it was sold the CEO made a huge temper tantrum online and quit lmfao

If I was you I’d just start looking, I know it sounds like obvious advise but better to start now than be caught off guard with a layoff

I wouldn't let myself the next victim of the Layoff.

If you feel that it's gonna be your turn and you did the best you could do but still no good return, it would be the best time to jump the ship!

If you get a new job then awesome do it, but don't just quit on your own and not get severance

Have worked with multiple orgs which have acquired smaller <100 people firms. Internal departments and cost centers are the first to go. Typically they need the product expertise for them to keep selling the newly acquired product or service so I haven't seen many sales people laid off because of it

if you are an AE and have no impact on leadership, its a waste of your energy to worry about this. you most likely cant effect this, and if you get acquired, it might not be a bad thing.

just focus on what YOU can control

Are they swapping out senior sales leadership? That’s usually a sign. Another big one is new investors without a big funding round push.
