Moving from New customer acquisition to Account Management.

Hi Community. I've been in New customer acquisition for years and looking to move into Account Management as a new challenge and to further develop my skill set.

I'm curious as to how you might approach an account you've inherited to manage. For Example: How will you engage with the customer to retain & grow the relationship?
1. Your plan for reaching out/engaging with the account to introduce yourself.
2. Touch points you'd create for supporting the customer?

Appreciate the Feedback.

Call and introduce yourself?

Or, have the AE or previous owner introduce you?

I mean, what other options are there...?

Appreciate you braintank but looking for something a little more specific.

For example: Day 1: email introduction, LinkedIn request. Request meeting to discuss adoption rate amongst team of services they’ve paid for. Promote increased usage and benchmark KPI’s. Schedule 2nd meeting 30 days out to review usage and KPI improvements to ensure they’re seeing a return. 60 day follow up to discuss any upcoming projects/ initiatives and how we can best support those efforts. 90 day follow up to discuss effectiveness, any changes that need to be made and so on.

Just wondering if I’m on the right track here and if anyone with experience in this space on this side of the account has any feedback?

Definitely seems like you're on the right track. Sometimes it's best not to overthink such things :)

Def on the right track. I agree with @braintank - no need to really over think it for starters. Just pick up the phone and say hi. They’ll appreciate the call and intro. Set up some time to chat with them about goals from there.

These would be mid market accounts BTW: $50-$100k annual spend. Stakeholders would be sales/marketing/operations leaders.

hi you've been a customer for X years, we want to have a strategic discussion on how you can get the most out of your investment

noticed X article and wanted to say how inspired i am to support you - do you have any other similar initiatives this year we can align with, want to make sure we can support you every step of the way

hi my name is X, your account manager. i'd like to you to view me as an extension of your team - do you have 15/30 mins to bring me up to speed on KPIs the org is tracking this year so we can best align our resources internally to hit them
