Somebody took my lead and booked a meeting and they told me its no longer mine

I received an inbound lead for my territory. My colleague took the lead and put it into his name and sequenced it. He then booked a meeting with the lead.

We are territory based so there should be no reason he should have poached my lead.

What is everyone thoughts on this? My manager told me that it was an accident and that the other person gets credit. My only problem is that salesforce said he moved it out of his name and moved it back to his.

You need to get aggressive with this otherwise it'll become a pattern. If it was an accident, then so be it. Either way, it should revert to you if its in your territory.
You need to get you, the other guy, and your manager in a room together and hash it out asap.

If you let it fester, it could turn into this:

Where is your manager's management spine? Yes, accidents happen, but 1) this is no accident (which I would firmly point out to the manager) and 2) if there are no consequences, congratulations and welcome to the Wild West your sales org just became.

Ridiculous.

Ha I had this happen to me a few times and I caught them EVERY time as a BDR. I had all of my information documented and slammed that on the table. I let them have that particular deal/lead credit, but they knew I was watching them moving forward and if it happened again, they would lose their job due to character flaws.

I gave up a 50-75k lead today because it wasnโ€™t in my zip code and the guy I gave it to will give me the next one he gets in my zip code.

There are rules and they only work if everybody follows them. My manager would give my booking dollars to another rep if I poached - zero tolerance.

You have a leadership problem.

I am sorry that happened to you. That sucks on so many levels.

Maybe it's just me, but if management doesn't do anything, I'd straight up confront the guy and let him know that that's a dick move. Document everything and he does it again, come at him with razorblades and lemon juice(jk, kinda)

If this is how your manager avoids conflict, take it as a clear sign that you are now the holder of the line on fairness, integrity, and honesty in regards to your deals. No one else is going to look out for you. And if you donโ€™t address it head-on with this weasel (whether you get the lead back or not), you become the target for future โ€œaccidents.โ€ Itโ€™s BS.
I know that 95% of the AEs that I work with would give it back to me and even do a warm hand-off so the customer was taken care of. But you have to hold the line for that 5%, cuz they see an opening and theyโ€™ll keep walking through that door.

I dealt with this exact situation at my last org. Management kept giving me the runaround and making excuses. Zero repercussions for the person stealing leads means that management is giving the okay.

After raising the issue and sending management screenshots from Salesforce for the fifth time I handed in my notice.

If management is so desperate to see sales that theyโ€™re okay with turning the sales team into a kleptocracy then there probably are other red flags with their sales culture.

Can you ask your manager if he / she can replace that lead with another inbound lead of the other rep. I had asked the same, worked for me.
That rep had taken my lead and booked a meeting. Closed it.
I asked and raised it to my manager and I was given another lead which I closed, which again was the rep's lead.

You should ask management to lock down your CRM by rep / territory so this doesnโ€™t happen again. If that happens others wonโ€™t be able to see and poach!

What I would do is collect all the evidence and face my boss with respect, but requesting that it be solved, we all make a mistake, but it is our duty to solve it

I would ask your manager which one of your colleagues leads he will be reassigning to you. Or ask your colleague for his next incoming lead from his territory. If they both refuse, it shows their integrity. As other said, continue to document everything. If it continues, gain as much experience as you can, accomplish as much as you can and get the hell out of there when you are ready.

Share in an email with your manager including the proof of the transaction/timeline, etc., and ask a simple question - "is this the type of culture we are promoting across our company". Get the answer in writing and send both to HR with a statement of what transpired.

Document, document, document. Be professional, empathetic, and a good corporate citizen. If you don't get treated with respect, strike against the company - start looking for a new gig.

Easy. Paper trail is key. Talk to the sales person first. If there being a snake take it to the manager and show him the paper trail. Get your half deal. If they donโ€™t give it to you. Thatโ€™s fine. Now you know that person will never make it in business. Relationship over money every time. Never burn your bridges at work. You might work with this person in the future.

Territory = Territory. Fight for it and claim it back. If you donโ€™t do this now - mistake or not - it will happen again. How would your counterpart react if that would happen to them?

Additionally leverage the rules of engagement if that are in place. Most of the time they state that account owners need to stay in lane during a fiscal year.

If not Iโ€™d open up the discussion about TAM in your territory. You have been assigned a well thought territory that should generate an X amount of cash. Now someone is taking on a lead that belongs to that territory. If the company just leaves it and all transacts they should apply quota relief on your quota and add this to the AE that stole your opp.

Bad ... Ver bad. I think your manager could have reversed it. If I would be you, Id email him with the screenshot. For now you can document it so that it won't happen again
