I have done it a couple times.

If you are leaving a job for them, this puts you in a position of strength. You can tell them that you are taking as much, if not a greater, risk as they are and need some sort of assurance. This can come in the form of a guaranteed severance if you are involuntarily terminated in the first year. I would ask for 3, to include insurance, and see what they say.

It’s harder in a big company but a smaller company can easily do it, if they want you bad enough.

But if you are currently unemployed, and they know it, it’s not that easy to get. Cause why should they? I wouldn’t. But maybe you could still get a month.

The point is, you can point to the Economy, previous experiences, or whatever and tell them it only kicks in if they let you go. But if they have done reference checking and know your performance background (which is why they are hiring you in the first place) it shouldn’t be too hard to ask for.

1) I would not join a company that offered me the opportunity to write my own package. That seems like a red flag.2) 3 months is the minimum, 6 months is ideal. Medical coverage included.
