Survived my first corporate re-org

I'm currently in my first "corporate" role ever, although I've been a $avage for about a decade now... Anyway, my company reorg'd this week and I survived and it is full of weird feelings. People who have been there way longer than me were let go and honestly it's a huge loss on historical account knowledge and just overall effect to customer service.

I had a big glass of wine, took a breather, and decided that I'm just going to continue to grind and if someday I'm deemed 'disposable' there is nothing I can do about it so I might as well have fun while I'm out here grinding.

Have you all had "survivors guilt" over this type of thing, or have I just been living under a rock my whole life?

Itโ€™s unsettling, thatโ€™s for sure. No need to feel guilty - the decisions were totally out of your control - but you probably know that already. The challenges to customer experience may be rough, but almost all your customers have experienced reorgs themselves, so with any luck, will be understanding.

It took me a few years to realize that my company would never love me as much as I loved it, and that loyalty really doesnโ€™t mean anything at the end of the day. Do your best, of course, but you have to also do your best for yourself.

First - congrats.
Second - no, never had survivors guilt. I have felt bad for those affected and have reached out to friends to offer them job searching assistance, but no guilt.

Been there too. Keep your head. It could be really great or really shit moving forward. Keep in touch with your colleagues who were let go and offer to help with your network or be a reference in their new processes

Sucks when you lose that deeper knowledge that's only gained from time.
I definitely have felt survivors guilt before.

Glad Iโ€™m not the only one. Feels very โ€œholy shitโ€ but could be that my personal life is a wreck right now too- if I lost my job I would be fucked. Working on getting to a place where that wouldnโ€™t be the end of the world- but right now that would be ridiculously stressful!

I tend to look the other way and really just not think about anyone else at this point.
That being said, I might also look out for some safer options so I don't have to worry about me being 'restructured'.

It's an uneasy feeling, but you will get over it. Focus on your job, stay away from negativity and gossip, and you will be fine.

You made it. Take solace in that.

A little guilt is natural but you'll have to let it go.
