The Thanksgiving Day Curse

How many people out there feel like if they dont get a deal out of the legal process by thanksgiving then its doomed to push to next year before it closes?

Many of the groups in the industry I sell to take the week between Christmas and new years off (so does my company).

Plus the week of thanksgiving is shot, the week after is just them doing catch up.

starts to feel like there are two days left in this year to get deals done.

Or at least out of the hands of legal ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

For us, there's about two weeks in December where things may happen, but it's an interesting month for sure.

You can do it - you're already aware, and the challenge will be in making sure your customers are also aware of upcoming holidays/days off. Sometimes we all forget how little time is left, and a small reminder will help. After all, they also do not want to be scrambling during the holidays.

Ohh yeah, feeling the end of year crunch. We have some deals come in late Dec but it is very challenging to grab peopleโ€™s attention once Thanksgiving arrives. Good luck!

You too! Yeah only thing harder than cloak my deals in Q4 is setting up discovery calls the week between Christmas and new years

Haha I know thatโ€™s right! I usually donโ€™t take that week off bc thereโ€™s usually 1 other nut job working and I can get some targeted things done but yeah, most people mentally check out. Iโ€™m always in a good mood that week so donโ€™t mind the holiday grind ๐Ÿคฃ

Hey @TennisandSales, you absolutely got this.

Iโ€™ll remind you of something Iโ€™m sure you already know: we as salespeople canโ€™t control everything! Give yourself some time to think on whatโ€™s in or out of your control, and then focus on what you can change. If you canโ€™t do anything about xyz, deal with it later when appropriate and focus on the now and how

Youโ€™re going to have a great quarter my friend, go crush it!!

No, but their senior management can often take holidays off.

Good luck to you as well.

I agree, we've got a solid 3 weeks left and then everything goes to shit. Ive certainly closed some deals between christmas and new years before but most often we are already in process and just wrapping up legal/procurement during those times. Keep at it though, depending on what your selling there could be some quick turn arounds

I'm (not) shocked that CROs / VP Sales don't step in here and adjust the OND quota.

november and december bring a great sense of foreboding and angst. How i see it is you have 2.5 weeks before thanks giving and a week after to figure out what you can make then its on to the next. too bad a lot of leadership doesnt see it that way

very true. the last two weeks have really cleared up what can close this year and what will push to next year.

Absolutely not. December is a challenging month for sure. Lots of distractions. However, it's still one of our biggest months of the year in bookings.

An SVP I worked with many years ago made the statement to a few โ€œyoungerโ€ AEโ€™s: โ€œHow many of you want to be working on Thanksgiving Day? How about Christmas Eve? The week between Christmas and New Years? If you donโ€™t. Hereโ€™s the secret: NO CLOSING DATES in your CRM from November 5-8 or later. Because, if you actually believe that your prospect or client will help you avoid those โ€œworking daysโ€ then you better start smoking something funny right now. You are the LAST thing they want to deal with before they go off to spend time with their families in (fill in the blank) while sipping a Mai Tai!โ€

Iโ€™ll never forget the way he delivered that message. And the changes in our CRM that afternoon. Made our pipeline numbers โ€œanemicโ€ for a couple of quarters, but we adjusted. And the following year, we closed 11 deals in October. None in November. None in December. And 17 on or about January 15. It was amazing.
