The worst part about being an AE and wanting to leave an awful work situation.

For all of you SDRs out there.

Especially a work environment that is slowly becoming more toxic every month.

It's when you are miserable at your job and just hate waking up for work everyday but you have a handful of deals in the pipe that are late stage. Yet, your sales cycles are long and include at least a few weeks of legal and finance reviews even when you get to the final stage of red lines.

If all of the deals close, that's easily $50k+ for you in commissions. You want to leave so bad but know that you have to stick it out at least a month or two just so you can get the deals closed.

I miss when as an SDR, your variable was immediate and much more straightforward.

The hardest part about a situation like this is leaving on even semi good terms. Obviously you don't need to fully smile through a toxic culture, but leaving real bad vibes behind will come back to bite. It's so tough to remain civil. Good luck on the deals!

Brother, I have been a part of amazing sales cultures to where I have a couple of managers as my references ready to put in a good word for me and then awful ones. They say never burn a bridge but some people were never a bridge to begin with.

yep. you gotta know what bridges to burn and what ones not to. I burnt the FUCK out of a bridge once and now i work for that companies competitor. Im fine that I can never work there again.ย

also, if you look to leave, ask for a signing bonus to cover lost commissions.ย

The commissions for SDRs aren't even a third as good as they're in sales though. I usually look at the pain-to-pay ratio in such cases.

The "commission game" is always a hurdle to leaving... and it never is easy.

โ€œHow is where you hang your hatโ€ - no role or company is perfect. There will always Be days where waking up feels like pain. Thatโ€™s why some sellers get paid more then neurosurgeons
