Thoughts on the FleetManagement industry?

I got approached by Motive (ex KeepTruckin) for a sales role there. In doing research, it seems like there aren't that many companies in their space and the change for fleet companies to become more digitized is inevitable or is it? I'd post this on the Blind app but most people there are eng org and I want to hear from fellow sellers.

I don't hate my current company but I do believe my sales leaders are complete morons and theres no way I can really grow into an Enterprise rep if we just closed our first million dollar deal in Feb. But I'm also not a job hopper so I want to be sure the company I go to next has the right product and market.

Thoughts on the Fleet Industry? Thoughts on selling hardware and software?

Knew some folks there, here's what I remember. Motive sells SaaS + hardware to people who don't want to deal with SaaS. Comp is tied to when hardware is delivered (dash cams) and there has been hiccups in the past with the supply chain issues. Support team is based overseas and tough to work with internally. lots of PIP / layoffs for performance after short ramp up period.

This is really good insight, though not encouraging.

Sales Rep
Seems like Motive has a good score in Repvue so that passed the initial test.

I have worked for a 3PL which might be your customers, their margins are pretty thin and that isn’t a career I would recommend. However, I am not sure what selling to them would be like

If there isn’t much margin, I’m guessing they probably don’t want to spend much

Crowded and very much a "good ol boy" industry. Helps if you're a car nut.

Has legs but a very tight top tier race, Samsara and Motive being king.

DO NOT DO IT!!! Was in the space at a partner company, There are 3-4 major competitors in this space (Motive, Platform Science, Samsara, Omnitracs and Geotab) Motive rebranded from keeptrucking to try and be a more modern cutting edge brand really they're trying to catch up to Samsara and platform science. It will be a chop shop boiler room sales environment, if you are up for that then by all means proceed.
