Tips For Taking Technology Breaks?

I genuinely love technology and all the incredible things it can do but would love any tips or advice fellow savages have used to take a break from all the blue light. The first step of addiction is admitting and I admit every morning I wake up and the first thing I do is check my phone. It's hard not to crave screen time when every social media is constantly improving its UI and algorithms to keep people scrolling.

Was thinking about banning my phone in the bedroom that way I would be forced to get out of bed if I wanted to use it. Also thinking about taking a trip to Montana in the new year and only using my phone during work hours. Obviously, easier said than done, but I think these baby steps might help me curb my addiction a little. Any other tips or tricks people have used to reduce their screen time are greatly appreciated๐Ÿคโค๏ธ.

Have you tried blue light glasses? I also have a blue light filter turned on a timer on my phone.

Love blue light glasses and wear them everyday. Maybe it's placebo, but I've found they make a world of difference when it comes to looking at my computer screen all day

Short term, try to get out daily and go for a walk/run/hike/ride - whatever you prefer.ย  ย Take your phone with you (safety first) but stay off it so you don't trip over rocks.ย  ย Just an hour or so a day away from tech and outside will help immensely.

Getting outdoors is absolutely key.

Also good to even just stare out into the horizon every hour or so to refocus your eyes - apparently it's actually a lot healthier as well.ย

Schedule in breaks into your day. I don't mean just decide when your tired and get up. I mean block your calendar off and title it 'break'.ย

Android has digital wellbeing tools built in that let you set limits for specific apps and websites. I find this helps a ton, especially for neverending content sites like YouTube or tik tok.

Going to see if Apple has something like this. Seems pretty helpful thanks Braintank!

I'd imagine they do, just not sure what it's called.

Android also has a "focus mode" which let's you turn off certain apps temporarily.

I also have my phone turn to grayscale after 9pm. A lot of the web seems less appealing in black and white.

Granted, you're able to turn off the controls at any time, but having a that speed bump helps pull me out of scrolling tailspin.
