What are the questions I should be asking my manager in my first two weeks of my position?

I just started my position and have check-ins often with my manager. I’ve been picking up the material well and feel that I have a good grasp, but I’m also at the stage of knowledge where I’m not sure what I don’t know. What are some questions that I should be asking my manager? For context, I am on a mid-market team. I start prospecting in about a week, starting with an account book full of Tier 6 accounts, and expect to work my way up as I start booking demos. My strategy so far is to focus on cold calls in my first few months to get as much learning through experience in as possible.

You’re doing the right stuff to start. I’d ask about who the right people to shadow.

But other than that, you were hired because they feel can do the job so I wouldn’t second guess myself.

1. I’m focusing on X, Y, and Z right now. Would you say that I’m on the right track?

2. If you were in my shoes, what’d be your top 3 priorities for the next 3 weeks?

3. Can you suggest some AEs / Senior SDRs who I can shadow calls of ?

I would also make a point to discuss core industry or product topics with your manager. You would start by explaining or describing your understanding of a topic and your manager can help validate if you are on target, but also has the ability to correct anything that may be off or offer additional points to help you deepen your knowledge.

One question: what can I do to be successful, and who can help me do that?

A lot of good responses so far. Another simple one…

What are your expectations of me right now?
Where should I be growth wise one month from now?
What can I do outside of work to better prepare?

Dude, you would not believe the amount of work that hit me starting 2 weeks ago. 5 contracts in flight, 3 RFPs including one that requires I write a novella (good thing I like them), 3 proposals and work stuff like training. I’m underwater. Should pay off any minute now.

Oh - and two kids graduating. Just super, super busy.

It’s all hypothetical until ink hits paper and contract shows up. For now, it’s just very very busy.

Can't hurt to tell your manager that you want to be sure to be up to snuff on all expectations and if there is anything that you need to be doing more of.

Ask your manager what metrics they are being evaluated on. You don't need to know their comp plan but you want to be sure you are driving the right KPMs, etc, for both you and them to succeed. Good luck!

As most have recommended ask for the people to shadow with and ask him to guide you for the strength points you have to keep and the weakness point if there's any to work on!

What does success look like in this position in 90 days? 6 mos?

Am I meeting your expectations? What could I do to improve?

This is a great discussion board. Will be very helpful for yourself and others. One question I feel like is where should my main focus be and how do I improve that?
