What Im doing to level up during this time of year.

So I know what deals will close and which ones will not. I know I will have some time on my hands and want to make sure I stay ahead of the game.

My company has a few different products they sell and in the future are trying to combine some of them to make something industry changing. (or so they say)

Ive figured out that my role is important, but my knowledge is lacking on the other products.

Ive also figured out that no one will just come along and teach me.

So ive decided to try and educate my self the best I can. By asking a bunch of people to to teach me. Explain concepts, share decks, the whole "pick your brain" approach.

My hope is that by the time next year comes around ill have more knowledge of the big vision than anyone else on my team, and can speak to our prospects about it intelligently.

My bet is that leadership will like this and ill be able to do more cool things.

In the past I have found this to be really beneficial. the more you understand and the better you can explain it, the more valuable ive seem to become.

Since I can afford to not be heads down all day, this should work out nice.

anyone else doing something like this?

Anyone else trying to level up in a certain way before 2023?

This is the way to do it. Form relationships. Learn. Grow. Adapt. Most importantly, pay it forward.

Same exact thing for me as well. We were acquired by any other company as thereโ€™s a great synergy of the two products if combined. They plan to soft launch it sometime next or next to next year. Still a lot of time and we are working as two different entity. But it try to pick some topics so I can speak about it if someone asks on the call.

I think it's a great way to approach the new year and to close this one out.

Excellent - anybody who can paint a strategic vision will benefit the company. I like your approach and yes, I think this will pay off. You're not just focusing on single product - feature/functionality but how your company can partner with your customers and really provide overall value.

Always trying to learning the products better, especially when new features are created all the time. I always try to meet with the Product Manager to know why x upgrade is important and to who.

Great plan going into the new year. The more value you bring to the org, the more they seem to lean on you which will lead to promotions in the future.

Yup. staying up to date with all the C-levels iin the industry and company, al the developments, having the mind of a solutions consultant while being a salesman is the consultative sale literally

Nice. 3 things that will advance your career in almost any company: skill, perception, exposure.

Im focusing on
- product knowledge
- subject matter expertise (to provide true consultation in calls and point out things prospects arenโ€™t seeing or thinking about).
- team selling. Things can get technical quickly with some of our products - knowing who to bring in on the deal and what details they need to know most is an area I can improve on.

subject matter expertise is SO key. your right, it can really help you be a consultant not just a sales person.

not bad to learn from others
Ask your management what courses they have learned the most from in the past and ask them to either share them with you (if they still have access) or see if the company would pay

Has anyone had experience with short-term consulting opportunities with expert network companies like AlphaSights / GLG on the side of full-time job? Seems like low lift / low time investment, and chance to make another $10k+ over the year
