This is one thing that I've not got a straight definitive answer for. When contacting people in the company for referrals: How many days to wait before following up if you don't get a response? How long do you converse with the person before asking for a referral? Which person in the company should you aim for a referral from? How do I do this without coming across as pushy and wrecking chances? I definitely would appreciate your insights on this one.

It is a referral from an employee to their company for a new job. In this instance I would say coming in cold.

Probably after you've done business with them or have cultivated a relationship. They won't refer you if they don't know you well enough, trust you or your product/service. I would think the referral would come from the person(s) you've worked with directly.
