What’s a title worth?

How much money do you put on a title? And don't give me that BS that a title ain't worth 💩. It is, especially when you're trying to climb the ladder and you know that most companies only want to hire someone who has held that specific title before.

How much money would it take for you to go down in title?

How much of a haircut would you take to go up in title?

This subject - hot right now. All kinds of orgs offering what they're calling "dry promotions." No pay raise, change in scope or responsibility, but hey... we've got a great appreciation for the work you do. You're a VP now. Congratulations! I got this offer once and flat declined.
To answer the questions: I wouldn't take any kind of downward career spiral for money. Jobs stops are too short, and companies are too weak. And going backwards in pay for a title isn't even an option. A free bump up to the C Suite might fly, but only if I had eyes on a new gig at that level.

But no way I’m going down in title even for more money. At the end of the day, that title on paper is worth far more than short term money.
