What’s your go-to when you’re stuck in a rut?

I ask because it seems like I'm feeling disconnected with my job. I've been here slightly over 2 years. Started as a SDR and got promoted within a year to an AE. Never missed quota before in both roles. I have a great boss, great colleagues with great culture. OTE is on the lower end though. I don't know if that's the reason I feel stuck in a rut.

I like sales. I like the feeling of knowing I actually formed genuine connections with partners and customers. I like knowing I've genuinely helped my customers' business with my solution. I love sales psychology and actively read up on how I can fine tune my craft.

I guess I don't feel as stimulated in my company anymore. I know people say to take a week off and stuff, but I've had days where I do completely nothing and try to feel better but I just keep coming back to this feeling of disconnection even after months. I don't know if I should continue in my company, and don't know whether moving on to another company is even gonna help. There aren't many good companies hiring in my country now though.

What are some of your goals or aspirations? What drives you? Has that drive ever wavered? If it has wavered, what do you do to get back on track?

You, sir, do not need a go-to panacea for job disconnection syndrome. You need a challenge. If you aren’t the least bit passionate about your product, but you’re motivated enough to stay current and keep your chops up, you’re bored, not burnt out.

What drives me every day is an engine that runs toward being the best there is at what I do. I’m not making that claim, but I do claim the effort every day. My prospects, revenue targets, and direct reports are a challenge. My product suite is complex.

Seems to me you might need a new horizon, not a vacation.

Damn, this is the insight I needed. I kept thinking I might be burnt out but it doesn’t exactly feel like it (I’ve been burnt out before). You’re right though, and I can’t believe I might be saying this, but I think I’m bored.

Go git yourself a job over your head. They pay better. You won’t be.bored. You’ll have something to prove again. Good luck!

Rightly mentioned, you might be bored rather than being burnt out. But also, I think when the personal life or other goals are not moving in any direction then also you feel disconnected with the work you’re doing.

Pick up a hobby or attach your work to a personal goal, that’ll help you feel a little more motivated, if changing jobs is not an option for you at the moment.

Start a Youtube channel or something and get busy - earn more. Do more exciting work outside the the work inside isn’t doing the job for you.

Honestly - think of the end goal. Everyone gets tired and disconnected from their job… bored even

Just secure the bag and live the life you want

Or move company, secure further bags and live a better life

There`s no way around feeling like this from time to time, but i agree with others here, you probably need a challenge or certain move in your personal life that will have to be matched by your performance at work too.

For me, it`s several things that keep me going: providing the best for my family, earning enough to invest in a second home and to never get behind on bills.

Start a side hustle based on something you enjoy. Use the money from your job to fuel something you're passionate about.

Having a fun side project is a great way to add challenge and reward to your life. I've been getting back into leather work and building furniture, thinking of recording some of my work and putting it on YouTube just for fun.

Make sure you are still covering all the basics and not "skipping" or assuming...

What helps me is that often I come across the true legends and goats of my org. They don't make a lot of noise. I don't know if you can try and join a work club or talk to people or ask someone new to explain you something? Anyone who does a lot of speeches or press events? Talk to those people because they are the people who truly love what they do and their excitement is contagious. And as others have said, plenty of time for a hobby then. Go and travel...read... paint...do a podcast. Life is too short to feel disconnected

You just had an awesome proposal call, but everyone is going back to their busy lives. What do you do to keep that momentum alive, especially over a long sales-cycle?
