What should one consider in this potential job offer

Hey Bravado!

So an interesting opportunity came along. No offer currently but I wanted to be prepared if they do come.

If you have seen previous posts, you know I am currently on board a sinking ship of a credit selling tax credit advisory services...

I interviewed with a company that has been primarily the two founders developing, marketing, selling, improving, etc the product by themselves. They sell software that helps enterprise companies with efficiency and security.

It would be my first time into tech/Saas.

After discussing with them about their product, the vision, the role, values, etc. I think I would enjoy the position and the company, lots of learning but I think a good fit at least on a mental level.

The rub.

I currently am 70k Sal +70k como (I think its fraudulent with the current company so just focus on the sal) W2.

The new position would be $25/hour 1099.... paid for meetings completed and then on deals closed.

What are your thoughts you would bring up or broach in this situation?

1099 so it’s on you to budget for taxes, and taking a 20k hit on salary, those might have me rethink about accepting.

Don’t accept a role solely because you want to leave your current one

Don't take it out of desperation, if they have a proven method and metrics they can show that you'll sell x customers per day/week/month and that maths out to a better total comp then dump the 25 and go full commission but if they had something that strong they wouldnt be offering a shit comp plan like that in the first place. Like others are saying find something else unless you have no options.

1099 puts you on the hook for all current benefits - out of pocket for insurance, etc. You’ll be paying extra taxes too, because those aren’t covered by your employer. It’s a no from me.

For more context,

My wife is currently working so benefits would be taken care of.
The thought behind the 1099 role I thought could be beneficial is that I also know others who could use my ability to follow up on their leads to keep their calendars going and get paid to do so. Because it's all remote and from my computer, I feel it would be a matter of time blocking and organization.

This company is self funded by the two founders, I am sure they would love to pay more, and maybe they will if they come back with an offer (not holding my breath)

Thanks for the insight. treating this as a side gig would be tough as I am not remote currently, I don't feel like they would want me calling on their contacts after hours but maybe I am missing something.
