When did you last use sales skills in a real life scenario?

Ever since I started in sales, I love getting into real life scenarios that require the skills we use on the phones every day.

What’s a good story of when you put your sales savagery to use in the real world?

Renegotiated my rent - outlined the gap between current and market rates, sent examples of comparable units, and showed how much landlord would lose if I moved out and he had to backfill (market rate x average length of fill based on postings). Got $1500 off.

I do every time I open my mouth.

I actually had a friend comment how graceful I was handling another person at dinner last night, yet I didn't realize it. Second nature I guess.

Car dealerships and contractors are my favorite. If you come off approachable and segue into negotiation typically they'll hear you out and maybe make a deal. Also, if I'm buying a service from someone once a relationship is established I'll pitch my product for the win/win. Everybody makes out!

Oh man, I've been buying a lot of tech recently and it's such a great feeling. Knowing that I am going to buy regardless and I'm just trying to get the best price/terms. Of course I do it in a responsible manner, but things like "if you can get it down to $X, I'll sign today" can move mountains. It's so nice to be on the other side.
