My company waited until February to slap a commission plan in front of me that had the same unrealistic quota as last year. 

don't believe me? 0% of reps even hit 50% of the annual target. LOL. They had relief last year but haven't hinted at any relief this year. 

is this the most insulting thing that can happen as a sales rep? who can top this?

Just in February eh? Wait till they wait till May and up your quota by 20% when no one achieved the previous years quota.

Staying and not getting your OTE or a guaranteed ramp is the worst thing a salesperson can do. The one caveat is a long sales cycle and cash coming in the next quarter.

My quota doubled and variable stayed the same. I can maybe (big maybe) hit the target, but even if i do i still have a 50% decrease in earnings than last year

I'm sorry it happened, but obviously they need to get that revenue from somewhere.
Out of curiosity, what's getting in your way of getting business? Market saturation? Product that isn't a necessity? Long sales cycles? Competition?

All of the above minus long sale cycles. Typical cycle is a quarter to close a ~30k deal
