I was about to write up a long response, but this sums it up well. One that I would add is the ability to close for the next call

Although I initially thought this was covered by (1)... yes. Always leaving the call with the next meeting set is a great skill.

Sales Rep
That's hard, from what I read you need the top 5 skills are

1. Empathy of your customers to understand their pains and why they would want to meet
2. Creativity for most outbound prospecting, you will not have long term success with spray and pray
3. Organization, you need to be very focused and staying organized is key to know who you need to follow up one
4. Persistence, its a grind to you got to stay persistent
5. Being willing to ask questions, take the time to ask questions of your team, manager, AEs. This is key to learn how other reps use their tech stack and the messaging they use to set meetings.

There is some great information in the academy:

Business Development Representative
1) Being adaptive. Understand what is working for you/others and adjust to prospects style.
2) Being coachable. Hopefully you have a good manager that can give you useful insights.
3) Being positive. Self explanatory, lots of rejection and bad days.
4) Being consistent. Don't let your foot off the gas during good stretches.
5) Being helpful. Not every outcome will be a meeting. If you can secure a follow up or identify a pain, that goes a long way.

Federal Business Dev Director
1. Be able to hold and drive a conversation. It's a lost skill
2. Be able to tell a story about your customers, not just spew product features.
3. Be able to succinctly articulate how your solution helps people
4. Thick skin. The job can suck sometimes but as long as you know it's a stepping stone and you need to cut your teeth in the role, it's manageable.
5. The ability to do the same thing day in and day out, rain or shine. If you do the right things every single day, you'll never miss quota.
