Why don’t I get recruited?

Not to sound arrogant but I've been curious about this for a while now.

I am an account executive at a Fortune 100 company and one of the most prominent B2B Saas companies out there.

My LinkedIn profile is more developed than most of my peers and while I haven't posted my AE results yet I was the number 1 BDR and SDR at my company.

What's puzzling is that everytime I talk to my peers they seem to be getting head hunted and get tons of recruiting inmail despite having plain profiles while I seldom get any and even when I do, you can very easily tell they are not very good opportunities (scammy, demotion, commission only, etc)

Any idea what's happening here?

Don't be that disappointed - most of the recruiter messages everyone gets are crap. Either outright scams, roles totally unrelated to one's skillset, or from amateur recruiters who don't even include the job title or some of the responsibilities in the description (got one of those just this morning.) You're not missing out.

Figured as much, just discouraging as I am open to others jobs but the lack of inbound interest is hollow.

First of all, if you have solid results as an AE, it's time to post them and see if there's a difference in the quantity and quality of outreach.

But, like everyone else has said, regardless of your role, title, years of experience, the majority of the outreach isn't suitable.   I've also gotten asked to come be a developer, which you think never happen, but it did.

My most recent outreach is from companies that are direct competitors; before, when I worked for a very large tech company, outreach was from other large tech companies and, as my son would call them, "randos".     By far the best outreach is from former colleagues and managers who have landed somewhere good and would like you to join them.

I think people over-exaggerate the number of inmails they get. FWIW I get about one a day and am semi-passively looking. I tend to ignore the inmails and just reach out directly to reps that used to work at my company to get the real scoop from someone I have a common comparison with. The real test of how good a rep you are is if former managers try to recruit you, not some recruiter who know nothing about you outside of what your LI profile says.

Did your buddies hit the ‘open to work’ option on LinkedIn? That helps 100%. How long you been an AE? If under a year maybe that’s why..
Also put key words in your profile ‘top performer’, put statistics, and numerics.
I can validate I get pretty much 3 recruiters a week asking to talk for new jobs. (Almost 12 yrs in software sales though)..

I have open to work on mine been an AE for a year and a half, and I get probably 1 a month. So weird to me. I’ll try the key word thing.

I could say I get hundreds a month, but really, I get 4-5 a week.

Did you switch to an AE role in the last year? Most recruiters search for those in their role for 12+ months, which can keep you out of their searches.

typically I get 4-5/week. Honestly its a crap shoot but my only point would be that theres times where working for a larger org works against you. Think of it this way, working for a SFDC or something like it, they are the market leader and the sell is probably different than a startup world sell, there could be hesitancy there.

In all seriousness, salespeople exaggerate everything. Also 99% of LinkedIn soliciting is for garbage opps by shitty 3rd party recruiters. Consider yourself lucky you don't have to deal with them.

All the recruiting messages Ive gotten have been from scammy insurance sales companies. I'd say maybe they see you wouldn't even entertain there messages because of your experience. Less experienced individuals are more likely to get targets into a predatory role.

Hey. So I just turned my "open to work" on and have quite honestly been getting berated. Some crap opportunities, some decent though.

So, how long do you wait to respond to InMails and do you respond to them? Im pretty sure LinkedIn has an algorithm for recruiters and they can see if you're a "hot" prospect based on how quickly and % time you reply to them. I almost always reply even if it's a no thank you. Cheers
