Advice on Non-Competes

if you're interviewing and they ask "I'm assuming you have a non-compete?" you could say, 

"Yes. but I'm willing to disregard it as long as you guy's wouldn't make me sign one yourselves"

(Please note non-competes are almost always impossible to enforce)

Even though most companies don’t do anything about the non-compete but still might be alarming to the companies you’d want to join.

The question is; how do they expect someone to have experience in that exact space without working for a competitor who may or may not have made its employee sign a non-compete.

Just gotta crush it in the interviews it seems.

They are pretty much worthless. Especially depending on where you live. I would just sign if you live in a state they’re not enforced. Last thing you want to do is come across like a pain before even starting a new job, it could turn them off from hiring you.

EDIT: I do know, actually, because it's a scare tactic. But I'm not sure why people still try this and others fall for it.

Most non-competes aren’t enforceable unless you have your comp paid. So just tell them that you are or will be covered as part of the separation.
