AI/ChatGPT for Outreach

Hey everyone, I'm curious to know what people's thoughts are about the current state of AI for sales outreach.

It seems there's a tonne of new AI outreach tools popping up, but most of them seem quite early stage. Has anyone using AI/ChatGPT to craft and send outbound messages? What are your experiences with that?

What do you think will happen in the future?

Absolutely. Use the AI of SalesGPT to get an answer on using AI.

We're all sick of it.

Good luck to those using tools like this in the enterprise sales space, what a great way to burn through leads super fast ...

Oh yeah. There's better use cases for AI than an automated message for enterprise. Agreed.

It doesn't sound right yet.
But there's great tools to speed up workflows and do account research.

Interesting. What kind of account research?

Not worried at all. Call me an old Dinasour, that's fine. But people wanna buy and negotiate with people. AI will not takes sales job. It can definitely help, but outperform, never in a million years. (Maybe in a million years, but you get my point)

I'm not using it at all, still crushing my numbers and I work in digital marketing, were its very common.

FireFlies.au is quite good tho for meetings, If you hate taking notes.

I agree. Don't trust anything that wants to replace humans, AI is a long way off of that. As smart as ChatGPT can seem, I've worked with LLMs enough to know that it's mostly a gimmick and it's better suited to simple one-use tasks. I think AI systems that reveal relevant & useful insights about prospects without doing a bunch of research will help at least inform a human user to act in a more intelligent manner, improve their decision making or get them from 0 to 80%.

Itโ€™s all kind of in a weird spot where itโ€™s not proven and not too many orgs are wanting to get all that risky with it

Yep. This might be temporary though as developers find unique approaches with LLMs. I think it'll get to a point where a first-time BDR is more risky than a well-informed AI. It'll take time though.

Current state = bots sending bad content to the wrong targets.
Is AI useful? Absolutely. It's great for condensing a lot of content and saving time. Can it provide a framework for outreach? Certainly. Automating tedious tasks is what ML/AI is fantastic for. Is it ready to replace humans? No. Seriously - we can't eliminate crappy phone trees and awful online help and FAQs and chat yet, and those are boilerplate.

What do you mean by wrong content? And how is the system you're referring to sending to the wrong targets? I'm guessing it promises "smart lead selection" but something really fucking stupid happens in the process... I wonder what that is.

You donโ€™t experience getting generic or poorly targeted content in email, LinkedIn or otherwise?

Seen some examples where it was awfully off and rubbed people the wrong way. Thatโ€™s a big NO from me. Rather do actual customization myself than f up opportunities bc AI shit the bed.

I hear you. Most of them seem to be just dumping raw LinkedIn data and a vendor created message template to generate the message and it's all over the place. We've been getting some decent results by breaking the prompts down into insights then personalising based on those insights, without the AI doing too much guesswork, which leads to hallucination. The approach is still in its infancy but it's a long way from dumping shit in and expecting 1 LLM call to do the work.
In other words, it'll get better.
