Annual plan

Who among us has to complete, submit, and have their annual plan approved this month? I do.

I have to go in tomorrow and submit it for both my departments and I have no idea which way to go. I mean, I do...I have two version: one based on expected disbursements for the board, and one that I think realistically reflects the year ahead.

But I'm not resolute in my reading of the market. We do well in recessions, and we do well in boom markets. But this last year kicked my ass. We sold over quota by nearly 149%+, but a notable number of companies cancelled contracts (through no fault of the qualification/sales process or projects team: just wild economic conditions made for a weird year) and we ended up at 90% of goal. Ouch.

How are you all feeling about the year ahead? Are we (as an economy) blowing out the hatches or battoning them down?

I have a meeting next week to go over this. It’s the only meeting I have all week.

I feel good about it. Just reviewing the pipeline and determining what we can actually bring in. Managing expectations and keeping those expectations managed is an important part of any org.

We have to turn in our annual plans in June each year (our fiscal is April-March and our busy season winds down in beginning of May). I would HATE to be doing mine rn- Godspeed!

Thankfully, a recession is good for my business. We historically sell MORE in a bad economy, but we are coming off a hard few years and some harsh layoffs which makes me question if the pattern will hold or if corporate is bracing for impact…

I am there with you, we can balance in a recession if we get in good with the right people. We are cheaper than hiring someone, so that works in our favor.

Not really in my responsibilities, but we are having a full sales team meeting this week as kind of a "year in review". I'm assuming they'll outline the 2023 plan while we're there.

The markets are unpredictable. People thought 2022 was going to be huge and that proved not to be true. Makes me glad that I have to find a new job to be honest

I am going in as a brutalist. Expect shit, and try to overdeliver. It is not that I am shy or afraid of stretching, but missing goal is a big deal and screws the whole company. See how I am in six months, haha.

How do i feel about the year ahead? Pretty good. I’m lucky to be in an industry that is solving a need that seems to be unaffected by any economic down turn.

Yeah it’s a tough one. We do well regardless of boom or bust market but things feel different this time, there is so much scrutiny over spend.
