Anyone know of orgs that like to hire teachers?

What up savages!

Been off the grid for a few months with family, work, and some other endeavors I'm pursuing.

Hope the resolutions are in tact (minus your dependency on stimulants to continue smashing quotas).

Question for the War Room - my wife has formally made the choice to leave the teaching profession. After 10 years in the classroom, she's ready for a change and a challenge.

Anyone know of companies that like to hire teachers? She DOES NOT want to be in sales and looking for remote role. Tons of skills that would translate to many roles so we're open to ideas but figured it was worth checking the WR! Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Corporate training roles - not sales enablement, but general training at larger organizations.

Anything admin, though that's probably the least exciting avenue.

I'd also explore roles at EdTech companies - they're like to be very amenable to and appreciative of teaching experience.

Note: Teachers are criminally underpaid in the US. It's awful.

Best of luck to Mrs. Gibbles!

Edtech is a really good shout! Plus I know a few people in edtech who were teachers who were hired as Customer Success and they were the absolute best at what they did

SE roles at big publisher EdTech companies - love the teaching experience and you do a lot of classroom implementation and teacher training. CS or product training.

Sheโ€™s applied for a lot of curriculum development roles. She has a knack for that kind of โ€œidea to substanceโ€ phase of work.

Wondering if she should peak into some of these roles. Thank ya SaaSsy!

Thanks for letting me off the hook for choosing to increase stimulant dependency. Good to see you @detectivegibbles . I've got a thought. My wife had a similar quest and landed in LLM training. It's remote, intense focus required. The pay isn't great but keeps her where she prefers, without commute. DM if you'd like more

I was going to recommend my employer, but we don't do remote unless you're in sales.

I appreciate the feedback all.

I should have prefaced this a bit more. Sheโ€™s applied to a healthy amount of Ed tech positions. The volume of teachers leaving the classroom is a massive problem that isnโ€™t being talked about in mainstream media.

Point being, these positions have hundreds and hundreds of applicants.

Moreso than ever, she needs to network her ass off. Sheโ€™s insanely qualified having led multiple curriculum development initiatives, yearbook design, etc. but sheโ€™s not even getting reply emails for interviews.

Missed you boo. Last 6 months of 2023 were challenging. Just had to take a step back and be present with some things. Family health issues, company was acquired, wife career change, more involved with church, leading a mens group, all on top of being a husband/dad.

We're back baby :)

What's exciting/hard/challenging on your end?! I want to hear it all.

Any company that refuses to hire a teacher for any reason other than maybe dev, is missing a tremendous opportunity.

Iโ€™d encourage her to rethink sales. Itโ€™s the easiest place to make a ton of money and itโ€™s not a โ€œdirtyโ€ job if thatโ€™s their concern.

She'd be tremendous at sales, way better than me frankly (i suck).

However, it's just not the lane she wants to be in.

100% agree with your statement though. People undervalue the skills teachers bring to the table. Organization, clear precise communication, structure, etc. let alone "managing/leading" 100+ people (students) while giving constructive feedback to help them grow.

My wife is the same way. Shes an RN and so burnt out, she always says, I could never do sales! She would be incredible at it, amazing listener and always gets people talking.

The thing is, sheโ€™s got a front row seat for my emotional roller coaster of a career and wants nothing to do with it ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yo, what about customer success? It's basically babysitting and teaching, but customers instead of kids?
All the CS folk I've worked with had a college degree and that's it, no real pre-requisites to the job, just taking care of customers and finding a potential upsell (depending on the company). I have a teacher friend I'm trying to get into tech as a CS.
