Anyone selling to South Africa based accounts?

Hi gang,

Q4 last year closed a sizeable deal in South Africa, first for our company. For context, I sell HRTech SaaS to mid and large enterprises.

Encouraged by this deal, I`m planning on doubling down on this market, and see if I can use the name of this one customer I closed, book meetings and bag a deal or two more by end of year.

So far, I`m finding that HR and IT professionals from South Africa, are open for chats on LinkedIn, and after just 2-3 days of outreached, I booked myself 2 meetings.

Does anyone here sell into this market? Any tips, advice? Again, it looks like people are generally more open to being approached on LinkedIn and meetings but that`s the case in "Arab World" in the Middle East too, and many times chats and even meetings will lead to no where..

I worked South Africa for a bit, I think in general easier to do business than rest of Africa. However, sometimes they have load shedding issues so no electricity and sometimes the connection is very poor. So it's like you have to do more via email sometimes

Yeah, I know about the power outages, many other challenges as a country too. However, there are some huge, multinational orgs there worth my attention at least :) So far LinkedIn and email is fine, I think the biggest challenge will be our absence of a local presence, as it`s too far and we don`t have a solid client base to justify any attendance to any live events, conferences over there..

I have closed a few south african universities and have south african heritage as well.....both of which may not actually be helpful to you at all....but had to share.

From my expereince though, they are cool with communications that are not as "corporate" as we tend to see in the states.

Also, id make sure you are using youtube to help understand how to say specific words.

For example The University of Witwatersrand is pronounced "Vitz-Vaters-rond" or
"Vits" for short. so mispronouncing things like that could put you in the back seat a bit.
