Anyone transitioned into sales from public relations?

Curious to know if any of you had a career in public relations before you got into sales. A big chunk of PR is pitching media all day long, often cold calling new media and trying to sell them stories. I feel like I could use these skills to transition into sales and wondering if anyone else has. Good day, all!

Out of curiosity what made you sign up to join a sales forum if you are not in sales? Are you currently interviewing for a sales role?

After working in PR, I founded a skincare brand and managed that for 5 years and co-owned a brick + mortar lifestyle shop for a year before I decided to take a career break in 2019. Since then I've been debating getting into social media management or sales seeing as I did a lot of B2B/B2C with my company. Bravado kept popping up so I thought it would be a good place to network and get a feel for it.

I was a PR major and interned at PR agencies in college. When I found out I could get paid to pitch and cold call for a tech company vs making peanuts doing it for a PR agency I pivoted to sales and never looked back.

Awesome. This is great. That's my line of thinking- sales seems way more rewarding financially than PR. Thanks!

I feel like a lot of the skills are transferable, and a lot the innate qualities would be the same.

But process etc. would be quite different

I haven't transitioned from PR to sales, but based on your comment, it sounds like you have a translatable set of skills.

If you focus on transferable skills on your resume, its an easy migration.

I mean, PR gives you the skills of talking to people.

I have not, but if you have been doing cold calling, should be an easy switch once you learn the product

Right, I would assume the transition would be easy. I like that sales would challenge me more- gotta hit those quotas or else.
