Ask for a raise in this environment?

hello I've been an sdr for a little over a year at my company. it looks like there's no openings for ae roles and there won't be for a while (6-12 months)

would it be an appropriate time to ask for a bump in compensation given sales market conditions?

Do it this way
Schedule a meeting, come with a plan
Say “look I have been crushing it” if I can continue at this rate or I can accomplish X by y date I would like to have a discussion regarding my position/value to the organization

People forget sometimes that businesses want you to succeed but they need to be given a reason to increase salary.

They don’t owe you an increase, you earn it, but setting the plan up front is important and shows initiative

Assuming you are, indeed, crushing it. This is the way.

This is the way to do it.

Some of my favorite bravado posts all start with "I've been the best SDR for X months, I want more MONEY"

Keep grinding.

Have you been hitting your targets? Do you feel like you’ve build a reputation for yourself with the sales team and your manager this last year? If yes, definitely schedule a meeting with your manager and bring up this topic. One thing’s for sure, you’re not getting a raise if you don’t ask for it :)

Yes and yes. I never asked for a raise, how would you frame bringing it up?

Well it depends on if you have been doing well.

If your crushing it then yeah asking for a raise is fair for sure. You need to be ready for them to say no because of the market conditions, but you should ask.

Make sure you have a specific number in mind that you want to ask for. And reasons why.

I would include how you have compared against the team, as well as what the industry is paying for your role. Use repvue to get an understanding of that.

The Key is to have a number you want and be firm on asking for it.

Yes! Sales market conditions, or col, or anything other than performance, are not good reasons to ask for a raise. Performance is a great reason.

It’s always a right time I personally feel but look at the other aspect like company performance, growth etc.

I have asked for a bump that was promised by someone who left and wasn’t honoured. I let my manager know before the review that would happen this month. I have been hitting my goals. He was happy I let him know and asked me to give him sometime.

Do you have the numbers to justify a raise? you could go at it from a commission standpoint if the numbers are there as well. Truth is if you are a valued member and have put in the time and effort most companies will play ball.

Ya I have the #s to back it up. Over 100% month over month… what do you mean by commission standpoint?

You could go to them and if they aren't willing to bump your base have them bump accelerators for going over 100% to incentivize you, that or increase the commission for qualified opportunities. Do you currently get a % of business closed won from your efforts?

Oh got it, good idea. Right now we are comped on if the meeting gets held by the ae. No % of closed won from my efforts

Well now you have multiple points of attack to go after and if you can get all 3 then it's great.
