Asking to be transferred to a new org we just acquired.

So my company just acquired a new company, I believe it is staying as a stand alone company and we'll just be offering their services in addition to ours. Since I got brought on and haven't done anything, I want to ask if I can get transferred to that company as an AE. Any advice on how to go about this or is it even worth trying if the odds are slim to none of that actually happening?

Right because theyโ€™ll want to pay you to do nothing at the new one? Iโ€™m sure there are a few with that deal already.

Why would they if you haven't done anything?

I feel like this would get looked at as an odd request.

What's the new company do that the old doesn't? Any reason why they'd see that request and say, yeah that makes sense?

They do close to the same thing, itโ€™s just I got brought on I havenโ€™t done anything at all been paid to do nothing literally and so if thereโ€™s a position where I can go and make commission then I want to do that. Iโ€™d think theyโ€™d understand but donโ€™t even know if my company has authority to do that like I would ask my SVP of sales bc sheโ€™s my direct manager

No disrespect but, What are your responsibilities? It doesn't make sense to bring someone on to do nothing and get paid for it. You must have some responsibilities? It's a lose for the company to hire someone to do nothing. I'm having trouble understanding this.

They brought me on bc the VP liked a sales call of mine and wanted me on the team but didnโ€™t have a role at the time. They told me sit around do nothing until we get a new product or a position opens up after I started working there.

See what unfolds with the other company. Dont rush. Only if you know that she is willing to answer you ask your VP general questions about the new company. Something to the effect of," I see we just purchased a new company, good to work for a company that is expanding, in what direction do you think we are heading with this new acquisition?"

This seems to be a new and weird request to begin with. But if you haven't contributed in any way, they might not take it seriously.

I wouldn't, unless you have direct insight into c-level's strategy. For all you know, they only acquired the company for their book of business and could absolutely clean house, firing anyone and everyone.
