Depends more on the company than the industry. Take cybersecurity, for instance. There are companies crushing it and others laying off or shutting down.

Sounds like you know cybersecurity.. what’s your opinion on some of the top companies and some to stay away from in that?

Carbon black/tenable?

I'd be wary of Carbonblack with the VMware acquisition
Tenable is everywhere and has a decent reputation in the VM space

I guess is there an area in cybersecurity like Endpoint security, cloud security, etc that you think is better overall? If not.. what about these:
- cloudflare/Imperva/Lacework
- SentinelOne/Crowdstrike
- PAN/Fortient
- Okta/Ping Identity/Microsoft

Endpoint: Crowded market with a few strong players (Crowdstrike and SentinelOne). I've heard great things about both orgs, so if you can get in at either it's a solid option. I'd avoid smaller players since you'll fighting for scraps based on price.

Cloud security: Space is booming, but lots of hype. I think the winners at the end of the day will be the CSPs themselves (AWS, Microsoft) since they'll invest in native toolings. The CSPMs that do cross-cloud security are strong contenders, but all of the leaders in the space (Wiz, Orca, Lacework) have shit culture. If you're looking to join a larger org PAN has good tech and customer base.

IAM: This (IMHO) is the space to be. Granted I'm jaded since it's the industry I'm in. Okta and Microsoft are the leaders, with Ping pulling up the rear. Beware of people focusing on too nice a use case.

Cloudflare & Imperva I don't have strong opinions on, but seem solid.

Fortinet: Strong in network security space, but don't know about culture.

Another area that I think is worth investigating is OT/IoT security. I think this'll have CISOs attention and be getting investment in the coming years.

Netskope seems great. They're kicking butt in the SSE space.
Menlo looks to be trying to do too much and not succeeding. Avoid.

Look at need-to-have rather than nice-to-have as a good start. There are going to be winners and losers in each category you listed as well. Who’s best positioned for the long haul? How do they compare to other companies? Do they have anything unique that makes them stand out?

Anything seen by organizations as “revenue generating.” So SaaS sales would likely be my top choice. Everything is pitched as “AI” now so find AI SaaS for sales and I think you’ll find a strong market with good security.

I used to think about industry a lot. I think cyber security and Fintech have been a bit more layoff proof.
Anyway the best thing to do: work on your mindset, go to therapy, be grateful, give it your best... If you can't give your best every day then a few times a week, be grateful, show it to others, try and try and try again and fail. And fail again. Network and talk to people. If you're great in sales then you can sell anything at all. Industry won't matter. If you have connections, your network will help you. Build trust.
Be happy, don't worry :)

It really depends. You have to look at the verticals the company sells in to. Understand how money flows within that vertical currently.

If you want to make the most money that’s totally in your control by seeking out those with greater experience than yourself and mastering what you do.

There are people selling software and earning 400k to 1MM a year. But there are also people selling equipment and doing the same or better every year.

It's solid in general, tbh. I haven't seen any major impact hitting this industry in general.
