Burn out

I'm feeling very burnt out. my company has extremely high expectations and I have watched nearly half the department leave as my new SDR class entered.

I'm now starting to feel burn out and understand why they left is this normal for an SDR org?

If you're asking, you're feeling it. Been a few months, hasn't it? You need to take care of yourself. Outside of the recommendations already made here, you need to find a way to separate yourself from the daily tasks. By that, I mean the personal part. The job is hard, no doubt. But this very moment is one that will build strength and chart the course of your sales career.
Take this very seriously, but do not, by any means, take it personally. Get 2 weekdays off if you can. Success in that role is always measured by minimization of failure. They tell you they're counting successes. Not true. They're counting how often you don't fail.. assumption being that the job is mostly failure.

So, drop the association with who you are and what you do. Everybody fails miserably and regularly at that job. Get your spirit back, come back and fail less often. You can do this.

What are you doing that is causing the burnout. What are the expectations?

They could be realistic, but often aren't. This kind of attrition is not normal for a good, not-toxic organization that knows what it's doing.

Being an SDR is a grind. Its not supposed to be fun. It teaches you the fundamentals of selling and teaches you the skills YOU WILL NEED to be successful later, if you choose to pursue Sales as a career.

BUT... burnout happens. And you didn't outline anything specific the company might be doing to promote the burnout. So I'm assuming that its just a tough gig and you aren't accustomed to being accountable for so much - which is why so many have churned out of it.

Most companies hire a bunch of SDRs, expecting half of them to not make the cut. They decide either Sales or the company itself is not for them. You need to make that decision for yourself.

Is Sales your thing?

You are burnt out because you feel you cannot meet those expectations or the department leaving ? What do you do to keep yourself happy?

One thing I used to do if I felt burnt out just take a day off like a random Friday and go do something you enjoy, turn slack off don’t check emails. Just take the day and relax and reset.

That’ll help with that feeling burnt out in sales is normal bc it’s a constant grind.

Remember you’re not a candle, you don’t burn out. Just take some time relax reflect rest up and come back into harder and when you feel burnt out take another day and relax and come back again harder.

It can be. Especially for SDR's. The unfortunate truth is companies treat SDR's like they are a dime a dozen but a good one is hard to come by. They expect high performers to perform and stay while they weed out the ones that "can't hack it" What they are really doing is burning out good reps and usually getting stuck with the mediocre ones

Listen. Find something fun to do in your freetime. A new hobby. A new place to explore, gym, meetups, a relationship... It'll take the edge of work. There's been a lot of changes in past years. Pandemic changed a lot and then working from home. Success is built under hardships.

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. Sales is hard; SDR doubly so, and then watching the departures just has to add to the feeling.

It’s often interesting to know why people left. If it’s for different reasons, then all the departures may mean nothing. If they’re all leaving because of the org, then that’s possibly an indication of broader issues within the org.

Are you getting along with your manager? Or is that an additional stressor?

Others have given you done great advice. Please take care of yourself and find things to enjoy that reset you back to your own normal. Your job does not define you, nor should it consume you. Take care.

It's important to at least ask why folks left. This kind of nonsense can make regular folks do shady shit.

Yeah, it could be related to that specific workplace, or just a combination of reasons. People leaving for better opportunities, or a promotion, or moving, or going back to school...and all at the same time.
Or - they could all be leaving or being exited.

Speak up about challenges you face that they can give a hand on.
Particularly, when they're already aware of your class resumes that involve skills and areas of expertise you had before ,so if any of those challenges are new to you or your team or need any extra support to be provided it will be then their responsibility to do it..(coaching sessions if needed..frequent time off each now and then to refresh your mood,etc..) depending on the type of challenge expectations that are hardly being met by you and your team!!

It shouldn't be so early, what are the drivers behind it? Quotas? Management style? Ice cold prospects?

Take a week off. Do something you really enjoy doing.
Take your mind completely off work for a bit. This happens often, especially in sales. Also - If you are someone that goes heavy in vacations too, take a breakie break vacation. Not hiking or some tedious vacay. This way you will restore energy. Meh
