Can anyone give me some good advice on how you deal with an off day in sales, I sell vsc and today I’ve been getting beat up on the phone. Any tips or tricks?

Lean into it, you're likely going to have more bad days then good days, own that fact, makes the good days that much more satisfactory. I've also heard good things about weed.

Not even a fan of his, don't watch espn almost exclusively because of him but that rant was hysterical.

Step away from the desk, go for a walk. Get a coffee/tea/snack you like.
This helps me at least.

A short memory helps, but that is not easy for everyone.

If you record your calls, go back to a call that felt really good and listen to yourself. Take notes on what you did well during that call. (Don't beat yourself up, but if the call felt really good odds are you won't)

Likewise, I find that trimming down what I am saying helps too. I find that customers get the most irritated when a pitch goes on too long. If you keep running into an issue you may be over-explaining something. Try simplifying your message a little.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
That’s Sales.

I just got off a trip. Basically it boiled down to it being $1000 to take some guy out to coffee for 30min only to have him tell me they don’t need what I sell. Talk about a waste.

BUT…

In the process of setting up the trip I set some other meetings up. One was pushed to being a Zoom call due to her schedule. So I took it when I got back to my HO today. Best call ever.

I wasn’t happy to not meet up in person, but now I know her schedule, her boss, her coworkers, etc. I’m meeting up with them at 2 conferences in the next 6 weeks. Since I hunt whales, it’s a long term play but she told me they have an RFP coming out in Q2 she wants my company to bid on. All good stuff.

So you have to have the bad in order to have the good. It’s never all good nor all bad. So buck up little camper, we’ll beat that slope together.

Those days are hard for sure. Definitely be kind to yourself - these days do happen to everyone. If you are not measured on call volume/day, I'd back off when I'm having an off day and do other activities to give yourself a break, and be ready to get back at it the next day. If you are measured on call volume, keep at it until you've hit your minimum, do your best to not sound defeated on the phone, and get through it. Make sure you take a good break during the day; getting away from the laptop/phone are critical for completely clearing your head. If you can get all the way away and go for a walk or a run (or whatever activity floats your boat) do that. Then come back, listen to a good call you had in the past, psych yourself up, and get back to it.
Sales are cyclical. Those bad days make the good days seem even better.

What is vsc?

A trick that has always worked for me whenever I’m getting shit on and becoming discouraged: I just look at my personal monthly/quarterly cash flow plan and realize how gigantic my bills are. Then I become physically unable to step away from the phone until my calendar is completely full.

But seriously, the trick is to become “numb to the result.” Don’t get more than momentarily hyped or butthurt if something great or bad happens. That’s tough to learn, but very easy to stay consistent with once you have learned it. Consider, if you will, elite poker players. Watch how the tournament winner reacts when they learn they just won a bigass cash prize and some jewelry.

a couple things i would do, in this order:
1. recognize that this is a bad DAY and not every day is this bad.2. disconnect. Do something physical, go to the gym, run, walk, play tennis, something physical will really help.3. do something you enjoy: video games, cook a good meal, hit that "special pen" a few times (my favorite)4. Then the next day, set some time aside to listen to your calls, see if you were missing something obvious. then listen to other ppls calls to get some new perspective. then make sure you get back on the phone!
