Checklist for leaving job

Taking a black swan approach here.

I want to know what I'm missing or haven't though about, as I've given my notice of resignation and have 2 weeks before leaving my current (and first sales) job.

Things I plan to do:

  1. Review existing deals to ensure smooth hand off (dont want to burn bridges)
  2. Connect with existing clients on LinkedIn to stay connected
  3. Prepare to hand over devices (phone and laptop)
  4. Backup emails/conversations

What else should I be doing or adding to this list?

Benefits. Make sure you understand when your benefits are cut off, how Cobra works (should you need it), and ensure emails associated with all relevant benefits tools are associated with your personal email.

Thanks, forgot about this and it also reminded me of exercising equity options.

If leaving for a new job, health insurance often starts on the 1st of the month AFTER you started. but definitely double check.

Delete your emails at the server level. Make sure to “delete permanently” if possible. Wipe the devices. Backup any material or take pictures of things you may find PERSONALLY useful without violating agreements. Know your cash out on PTO if any. Pre-write your exit interview answers if you have that.

Whats the reasoning behind deleting emails? Wouldn't that be the equivalent of burning bridges?

You can save what’s relevant for a handoff, but I delete what I can permanently to avoid any glances of some IT guy snooping around my personal life. Lots of personal sensitive data can be stored in email over time.

You do sensitive personal business with your corporate email?

Also, I'm no expert but most companies don't give salespeople access to their email servers. Regardless emails are typically backed up legal reasons regardless.

Not really, but I’ve forwarded things to personal email addresses, etc and I don’t want them to have those.

When I say server, I mean the web portal if you use things like Outlook. Theoretically they can restore to a point but why just hand it all over easily? I’ve worked in IT long enough to try and prevent prying eyes, especially by people who don’t need to be snooping around.

Also, from a data privacy standpoint, you don’t want potential leaks by handing data over to someone who might not have the same intentions.

Make sure you have rough commission payout figures in your head. Plus 2 weeks pay and if you’re in a state that pays you out on PTO, then make sure you get that money as well. Check your last paycheck like a hawk.

Your HR should also have a checklist to assist you, including the benefits package plus any other info you should be aware of.

We don't have an HR, but I'll add "check with HR" to the list.

Thanks!

LOL.   Yeah, it's helpful to know what they really want you to return.   I returned laptops and all charging cables, but was allowed (frankly, encouraged) to keep the phone.  Your list seems solid.

If you are staying in the industry I would take any notes you took on POCs, deals, accounts that you could use in the future.
