cold call openers?

How have you guys been opening your cold calls to avoid getting hung up on?

Noticed when i've got a good joke ready to open with, it ends with a booking but looking for some new approaches to test out. (usually not funny 👎)

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Nobody takes a joke seriously from a cold caller

The best way to cold call is to tell them your name, your company, and establish a business reason that they care about to not hang up on you.

It’s really that simple. And if you don’t know if they are the decision-maker or not, ask them. Usually people will tell you right away if they are not the right person.

I like to start off with dropping a name of someone they would recognize, like an executive in the company, who has referred me to talk to them. Or I drop the name of one or two companies they would recognize and talk to them about sharing what we are doing with those two companies to achieve some specific result.

Again, if you do not establish a business reason for them to care about speaking with you in the first 10 sec, you will fail at cold calling.

Hello,
Is this the CEO of Nvidia? Yeah? Great! Listen up.
Guy walks into a bar and sits down. He hears “hey great hair” Another guy walks in. Sits down. He hears “really nice shoes!” Next guy comes in, sits down and hears “wow, super coat!” First guy says to the bartender, “what’s up with this? Nice hair, nice shoes, super coat?!”

Bartender says “that’s the peanuts. They’re complimentary”

So the reason I called is because I noticed X. I’ve got a Y that fixes….

Like this? Seems like a lot of words.

not something canned as much it is “hey it’s x but my full name is x y, and i’d love to be best friends so u can call me z” or “hey it’s x did you get my email?” and if they respond no “that’s alright man no one ever opens my stuff anyway i think it’s a me problem”

Serious answer? I tell them who I am, my company, and that I’m a shareholder. It usually gets a pause long enough to tell them why I rang.

I’ve heard the advice that their response to you is a gauge on how open they are to talking. So what paths would you take depending on the answer, if we segmented their “warmth” by cold, warm, and hot, with cold being something clearly indicating they’re not into it and hot showing that they’re in the perfect spot for you to talk to

Cold- I understand now might not be the best time to talk. Is it ok if I send you an email and follow up later in the week? If yes, send them an email including resources that clearly articulate what your solution does and ask to continue the conversation. If no, thank them for their time and ask if they can refer you to someone else whose scope may be more appropriate.

Warm- I use gasty’s gem: “yes, this is a cold call. You can hang up now or roll the dice.

Hot- pitch

First, sounds authoritative. 2nd, says you’re invested in their success. 3rd, says you know the company. There’s no magic pill but this has worked consistently for me.

My go to is the confused old man approach.

Hi _________________

Its [first name] from [company] here.

I was.. Hoping you could help me out..

I was looking to speak to the person who is responsible for [a problem your company solves] but I'm having trouble finding that out, could you.. Point me in the right direction?

I generally find gate keepers are waiting for a sales pitch so they can run off their usual dismissal, but if you call asking for help, you usually get what you are looking for.

Your name, company name and the reason for the call IMO - gotta make those few seconds you got count!

"Howdy partner, how the heck how are ya?!"

But in all seriousness: first 10-15 seconds you need to have explained who you are and why you are calling
Next 20 seconds, ask a relevant question or make a statement that provides value
If you do those two things right you may earn some more time to have a conversation/make a little pitch
Finally, make a strong CTA - take a disco/review materials etc.
