Heโ€™s gonna run it via metrics then - number of calls, demos, and of course โ€œare you hitting quotaโ€

COO experience is a red flag, but don't jump overboard quite yet.

Has the COO even been a sales person? that is the first question I'd ask.

So basically what's going to happen is you're on our own. You're going to get very little support, unless you're already a top performer or you're buddies with the COO. If you're good with that, cool. If you need your hand held a bunch, its going to be tough on you.

It can work, just depends on the experience of the COO.

If the COO has some sales experience in some form it could work but if not that's a slippery slope

Depends on his background. Oftentimes titles aren't very indicative of actual responsibilities. However, our COO got involved in sales for a while a few months back and it was total and complete hell. Good dude though.

This exact thing happened at my company recently. Our new COO is a complete 100% asshole, and almost everyone is trying to leave. Iโ€™ll be shortly behind them all. Not sure who thinks treating people like shit is the best way to motivate your team..

Does the COO have extensive sales/business scaling experience? If not, sounds like a cost cutting exercise than a strategic decision

Some sales experience. definitely cost cutting exercise-which makes no sense because this coo costs ALOT

Still would be less expensive than having another CRO + VP of Sales

Anyway that holds an experience of selling, can manage sales - this is what I believe. Can definitely be wrong.

It depends, my previous company the COO would take care of sales, marketing, and quality assurance of the platform. It was a start up so a lot of people wore many hats.
