Do you always wear a collared shirt for customer calls?

Question in title.

just moved to a new company and wore a normal shirt on a disco and my VP who I knew before joining hit me up and said always collared shirts on customer calls.

I don’t dress nice in general and still look presentable on calls and it has never affected my ability to close deals so just wanted to see what the community thought on this

I sometimes wear nothing but nipple tassels and a banana hammock. Thank God for the ability to turn off the camera.

Hope this helps.

Yes, always a collar, but ill mix it up with a floral/Hawaiian shirt or a colorful golf polo - keep it fun.

I’m in the always boat. Either polo or button down. But those are customer calls, not internal. I wear whatever for internal calls

I'm not male, so no.
But if your boss wants it, then that's the code for this job.

I have some organization branded T-shirts I throw in but I always wear something I can legitimately claim was for work. Buy some big golf shirts and it'll look good and feel like you're wearing a jersey and playing COD on your dorm room couch with boxers/athletic shorts on.
I'm jealous of all these pure hybrid problems...goddamn midwest sensibilities.

I did in the before times. ALWAYS. Now it's a clean, plain t-shirt for the most part.

Used to sell into marketing and typically always wore t shirts. I work with a different persona now and am always in a collared shirt. Rhone is expensive, but they fit great and the buttons under the collars are fantastic

I remember one place I worked, we were meeting with a potential partner (they wanted to be a certified reseller). Their VP was on the call with a backwards snap back hat on, shorts, with his feet propped up on his desk. Not sure why he chose to have his camera set up so we could see his bare legs, but that's what he did. We did not move forward with the partnership. For various reason, not only because of his attire.

Most of the shirts I own are polos. I just like the look and feel, so yeah I always wear a collared shirt.

I have been mulling this, as a woman. I would rather wear high neck lululemon shirts, but the rest of my team are 50 year old dudes and always have button downs. I HATE button downs, they bunch and are unflattering.
Maybe I just go straight to old biddy pashmina, I dunno.

Yes, collar. Has nothing to do with what’s gonna come out of your mouth. But yeah- should

I look like a slob all day every day and then 3 minutes before a call I throw a nice shirt over my tank top and some lip gloss and I’m there for the party.

On the first video call I always do a collared shirt, sometimes with a blazer (depends on how I’m feeling). After that I match whatever energy my client is giving. If they do t shirts I’ll do t shirts. If they come suited up I do the same. Makes you more relatable. In person I’ll usually come at least in dress pants and a nice shirt or suited up depending on the meeting and client.

Depends on the client. My relationship with the client. Who else is on the call.

Always. It's a show of respect to your prospects/ customers, unless you're a cashier at Dollar General.
