Do You Have To Give A Reason When You Take P.T.O At Your Company?

Curious if most people in sales give a reason for their P.T.O or if they take it when they want without explanation?

I give a reason when I take my paid time off

We definitely don’t have to...and it might be unlawful to require an employee provide a reason. But I still provide one so that everyone can be jelly. Haha.

Personally I always tell people. It's just the kind of person I am. If someone tells me that they are taking time off, I don't ask any prying questions, but I usually ask "going anywhere fun?" mainly because I'm just curious.

We don't have to tell the HR dept per say, but my boss would definitely want to know.

Nope. I remember being young at one of my first jobs. I was always so worried that I had to give a good reason for taking time off. But over time I've realized that if they want to know, they just want to micro manage and put you in a spot where it's difficult to ask for time off. It's not needed.

No, I usually mention if I'm taking care of an appointment/going on a fun trip but that's about it. We are not required, I just have a friendly relationship with my boss.

No. It's your time off. You earned it. You get to take it. End of story.
