Do you think the Hardware side of IT is dead/dying?

For some context - I work at a VAR (Value Added Reseller) in the Seattle area. real Mom N' Pop shop. for what it's worth the company is managed horribly. Bosses are worried about all the wrong metrics, and would rather see us have high call numbers with VMs about HPE than they care about our real progress...

Caveat is that even though it's managed poorly, I have a TON of autonomy, a great comp structure and virtually do what I want (if I'm willing to endure some ribbing). But it's getting harder and harder to get around the cloud objection. and I'm wondering if I could make more money working for a newer technology model.

No idea about your industry, but every 6-12 months, even as a manager now I like to send out a few prospective applications.

Couple reasons for this:

1. Always good to train/practice interviewing/applying
2. Keeps my resume reasonably up to date
3. Test my market value

At the end of the day, the grass might not be greener, but you need to look over the hedge to find out.

software to the moon 🚀

However, in my industry, there are still plenty of companies that won't buy SaaS platforms because it opens them up to too much risk of sending their information and data to a 3rd party. That being said, they still buy software and self-host it on a VM most of the time.

I got my break in Data storage. The money is nice if you can slang it but it is for sure getting harder because people don’t want to manage their own infrastructure. That’s why yours truly switched to Saas. It is what it is.

Just made the jump from SMB to enterprise SaaS which even I'm still shocked about. What's your advice to someone new to this side of the game?
